Data Scientist, Discovery Science

As a data scientist, you’ll form close partnerships with world-class engineering and Product teams. Your analyses and collaborations will drive the design and development of the most visible features at Pinterest (e.g. Guided Search, Visual Search, Picked-for-You, personalized ranking). Your work will impact hundreds of millions of Pinners’ and directly improve their Pinterest Discovery experience, including recommendations, personalization, search.

What you’ll do:

  • Identify product opportunities through in-depth analyses on massive datasets; communicate complex concepts and the results of the analyses in a clear and effective manner to cross-functional key stakeholders
  • Collaborate with other engineers and data scientists to design, analyze and interpret results of complex experiments to better understand user behavior changes and system-wide impact
  • Provide technical and thought leadership in measurement and analytics plans in the Discovery space
  • Define and measure user engagement, content relevance, and ecosystem health
  • Leverage existing metrics, experimental results and additional analyses to provide guidance and recommendations for Discovery product decisions

What we’re looking for:

  • Quantitative or engineering background with over 3 years of relevant practical experience in the industry
  • Expert in at least one scripting tools (e.g. R, Python) and fluency with SQL
  • Experience manipulating web scale data (e.g. Hadoop, Hive or other MapReduce paradigms)
  • Proven ability to apply scientific methods and statistical rigor to solve real-world problems
  • Strong problem solving and communication skills, with a dose of healthy skepticism
