SW Development Engineer 4 (Fitchburg, WI)

  • Prerequisites: All from previous levels. Additionally, the Level 4 candidate must be prepared for the position by demonstrating many of the following.

o A superior command of one or more programming languages.

o A superior command of one or more operating systems and its development environment.

o A superior command of one or more programming specialties such as image processing, databases, graphical user interfaces, application infrastructures, or similar areas of expertise.

o A demonstrated ability to provide valuable input into the design process. In some cases developing design and implementation ideas and documentation.

o Works closely with management and team leadership to identify issues and promote the change necessary to address them. Actively participates in the work needed to consistently improve, grow, and evolve the results of the entire staff.

o Willingly collaborates with internal and external resources to acquire technical or customer knowledge, or system related information required to design, develop, and test software deliverables.

o Demonstrates the ability to be given tasks and take ownership of the steps required to produce coherent plans and deliverables for assigned tasks.

o Has demonstrated either technical or organizational leadership skills or capabilities.

o Has willingly sought additional responsibilities and more complex tasks.

o Consistently works to published plans and schedules.

o Demonstrated an ability to mentor more junior members of the staff.

o Demonstrated an ability to influence team members and management towards improved results.

o Provides constructive comment and ideas for areas outside of their direct assignment.

o Typically requires a minimum of 10-12 years professional experience or related experience.

  • JOB LEVEL: Having broad expertise or unique knowledge, uses skills to contribute to development of company objectives and principles and to achieve goals in creative and effective ways. Alternately, has demonstrated the organizational and leadership skills to lead small to mid-sized technical teams.
  • JOB COMPLEXITY: Works on significant and unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles. Exercises independent judgment in methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Contacts pertain to significant matters often involving coordination among groups.
  • SUPERVISION: Determines methods and procedures on new assignments, and may provide guidance to other personnel. Capable of being either a subject matter expert (SME) and/or leading technical teams. Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new or special assignments.
