Job Description

Philips is seeking a Senior R&D Technician with experience in minimally invasive catheter technology. Work in a fast paced, medical device company at Philips Volcano Corporation in San Diego, CA.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support engineering activities such as design, test, checkout, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototype electro‑mechanical systems and disposables, experimental design circuitry or specialized test equipment
  • Works from schematics, diagrams, drawings, solid models, written, and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and trouble‑shooting functions
  • Conducts engineering tests and detailed experimental testing to collect design data or assist in research work
  • Performs operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment
  • Assists in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions
  • Assists in the design, construction, test and check‑out of test equipment
  • Assists in developing manufacturing processes for disposable devices
  • Uses manufacturing test, development or diagnostic equipment including but not limited to such equipment as oscilloscopes and signal generators
  • Contribute to the development and prototyping of peripheral catheter technology
  • Performs assembly and test work as required during development of pressure guide wires
  • Generate and release documentation through product development per document control procedures
  • Product modeling and component drafting
  • Assist in basic experiments, and documenting the results in accordance with good laboratory practices
  • Responsible to debug basic electronic and mechanical test and assembly fixtures under the direction of a supervising engineer or higher level technician

Skills & Abilities

  • Fine motor skills required to build eletcro-mechanical micro-assemblies under a microscope
  • Acquires job skills and learns company policies and procedures to complete routine tasks
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to read and understand documents such as manufacturing instructions, mechanical drawings, policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to understand and use electro-mechanical machinery
  • Ability to understand and use electronic and mechanical test and measurement equipment
  • Good computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Office, Excel and Word
  • Must possess minimum Technical Writing capabilities
  • Able to organize and prioritize workflow at minimum level in order to meet project timelines
  • Able to train other Technicians on basic assembly and/or test instruction
  • Assembly techniques including but not limited to heat bonding, adhesive bonding, laser welding, tip forming and soldering

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • AA degree or equivalent technical experience preferred
  • Medical device fabrication training and demonstrated experience preferred
  • Must have catheter medical device experience
  • Manufacturing and/or product design, process development is desired
  • Experience working in the clean room is preferred
