Sr. LabVIEW Programmer


Responsible for designing, engineering and implementing National Instruments (NI) systems associated with distributed control, real time control, timing and data acquisition systems. This is a regular, full-time employee position that is not suitable for an offsite or consulting agreement arrangement!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for LabVIEW programming and HMI interfaces
  • Production, installation and commissioning of NI based systems
  • Integrated commissioning of the NI based systems
  • Documentation, operation and enhancement of NI based systems
  • Liaison with other engineers and scientists to form requirements for NI based systems
  • Detailed design and specification of hardware, distributed IO and infrastructure components
  • Detailed design of software structure and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI)

Required Experience:
  • Experience with large distributed control systems gained in an industrial or scientific environment.
  • Experienced in the operation and enhancement of industrial or scientific control systems
  • Interfacing with or design of scientific instruments or systems

Required Education:
  • B.S. Electrical Engineering or Computer Science

Preferred Certification:
  • LabVIEW Certification (Certified LabVIEW Developer)

Technical Experience (Equipment, tools, etc.):
  • National Instruments hardware, PXI, PXIe
  • National Instruments distributed IO (eRIO etc.)
  • Commissioning of network infrastructures

Software Knowledge and Skills Required:
  • LabVIEW programming
  • Object Oriented and/or Actor-Framework programming
  • Experiences of interfacing with large database systems
  • Networking using Ethernet, EtherNet/IP, Data Distribution Service (DDS) and other industrial protocols

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Integrated control of high voltage or high current systems
  • Integrated control or acquisition of diagnostic systems
  • Interest in large science or R&D projects
  • Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team
  • Effective/excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to cooperate and communicate well with engineering, physics/science and project management groups
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Self-motivated, creative and accustomed to out-of-the-box thinking
  • Available to work flexible and extended hours as needed
  • Available for some limited travel - US and international
