CNC Machinist (Turning / Operator / Set Up)

Type: Contract 6-12 Months+

Location(s): Cheraw, SC (1-2 months for training in Fort Mill, SC)

OT: Yes (standard 5 day work week, OT would be a 6th Day i.e. Saturday)

Job Description

Our Client a global automotive and industrial supplier, is seeking Multiple roles and Shifts 1st, 2nd and 3rd to work at the Fort Mill, SC and/or Cheraw, SC location. The positions are responsible for producing quality parts for our customers.

All Roles in Consideration are listed below the primary:

CNC Machinist - Milling - Turning Job Description: (We are looking for skilled machine operators; CNC operating and programming is not necessary but is a plus).

Prime Qualifications:

  • 3-6+ months experience with CNC machines or similar manufacturing equipment min
  • 1-2+ years' experience with CNC machines or similar manufacturing equipment preferred
  • Must have a High school Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of two years in manufacturing environment operating complex plant metalworking or related equipment. This experience must involve machine set-up and be on the same machine or machine type as will be responsible for after hire.
  • Ability to provide examples of previous complex troubleshooting
  • Strong mechanical background with troubleshooting skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work OT to include weekends
  • Ability to read/complete blue prints
  • Set-up and run the CNC machine(s) to produce parts that meet the drawing requirements
  • Feed the machine adequately to achieve the established standards
  • Use height gauges, dial indicators and related measurement equipment
  • Identify parts as good, scrap, or rework (including dimensional characteristics, process abuse, and cosmetic characteristics)
  • Document items specified in control plan
  • Document production, scrap, time spent on the job, down-time, etc., according to current reporting means
  • Keep the work area clean and orderly
  • Able to Work in a manner safe to self and co-workers

Prime Objective:
  • Operation of equipment and process in accordance with established process sheets and work instructions.

Prime Tasks:
  • Ensure parts meet blueprint specifications
  • Must verify that all required paperwork and gauges are on the workstation
  • Ensure gauges are properly set and properly calibrated per calibration stickers
  • Ensure proper inspection/quality checks are taking place per the control plans
  • Ensure all work and inspection stations must be kept clean and all gauges must be handled carefully and kept in the proper location
  • Keep all parts identified properly and organized in such a way as to avoid mixing
  • Adhere to 5S standards for work area organization and cleanliness
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex machine issues
  • Ensure efficient flow of processes and materials

Machine Operators:

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Operate machinery for production of high quality parts to Customer specification
  • Run production
  • Verify sampling of parts for conformance to specification - Master all gages
  • Component lot control and stock
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area
  • Other duties as required by Supervisor
  • Know and understand the current specifications of the Quality Policy and Procedures and contribute to the achievements of Quality objectives.
  • Comply with and support Policies and Procedures, Plant Rules, Guidelines, and Environmental Health and Safety Regulations.

Job Requirements & Qualified candidates will have:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Able to operate automated assembly equipment
  • Able to make precision measurements as required and complete SPC charts and forms.
  • Have the ability to safely lift 40 pounds
  • Two (2) years' experience preferred but not required
  • Must be able to stand up to 8 hours (break excluded)
  • Manual Dexterity, Motor coordination, Hand-eye coordination, Spatial and form coordination
  • Mechanical aptitude


Set Up Operators:

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Set up and Operate machinery for production of high quality parts to Customer specification
  • Change tooling at the beginning of each production run
  • Run production, making necessary adjustments
  • Perform some mechanical maintenance to keep line running
  • Verify sampling of parts for conformance to specification - Master all gauges
  • Component lot control and stock
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area
  • Required to follow all Company policies and procedures
  • Other duties as required by Supervisor

Job Requirements & Qualified candidates will have:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Able to read manufacturing prints and make precision measurements as required
  • Two (2) years' set up experience, preferred but not required
  • Have the ability to safely lift 40 pounds
  • Must be able to stand up to 8 hrs (break excluded)
  • Manual Dexterity, Motor coordination, Hand-eye coordination, Spatial and form coordination
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools, mechanical devices
