PayPal Risk Analytical data Operation Service team is part of the PayPal Risk Global Risk & Data Science (GDS) organization. We provide large volume of analytical data preparation to industrialized machine learning algorithms knowns as models, with which to address various risk decisions on PayPal transactions. We also use cutting-edge Big Data technology to provide self-service tools for data services to shorten model delivery time in a scalable way. You will learn about the most popular analytical, machine learning and data analyzing domain technology in an open, diverse and international working environment.

Key Day-to-Day Responsibilities includes:

  • Design, automate and integrate data simulation applications or workflows (mostly on Hadoop cluster) into our unified data provisioning platform for risk model training or research purpose.
  • Develop and add new features to our self-servicing data preparation tool with front end and back end technology, acting as the common layer to collaborate with other upper and lower-level components from Risk’s ecosystem for model deployment.
  • Maintain simulation service to support our modelers, data scientists and analysts on trouble shooting, engineering best practice and disaster recovery.


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering related background, with at least 6 years’ experience (Master for at least 4 year) in data processing area.
  • Experience in big data process with Apache Spark, Hadoop MapReduce and Pig etc., which on top of Google Cloud env is a plus.
  • Master at least one of the programming languages (Python, Java, Scala, Perl etc.)
  • Experience in working under Unix/Linux, solid Shell scripting expertise.
  • Experience with SQL for data manipulation, especially large RDBMS (prefer Teradata)
  • Knowledge of statistics, data mining or predictive modeling is a plus
  • Experience in job scheduler or workflow manager (e.g. UC4, Airflow) is a plus
