PAX is seeking an experienced Compensation and Total Rewards leader who can help us design and deliver our total rewards strategy and programs as we scale, as well as implement and support the systems and processes necessary to enable success.  A strong candidate will be fluent with private and public company benefits, cash compensation and equity vehicles in fast-paced, high-growth environments. This is a full-time position in San Francisco reporting to the VP, People & Places.

As the PAX Head of Total Rewards, you will:

  • Manage the cash compensation range development process and overall salary structure, including meeting with leaders to discuss role changes and needs, cost modeling, and communication/change management
  • Own the annual sales compensation planning process and ongoing management of the plan
  • Partner with Finance to design and administer the corporate bonus plan
  • Manage our equity budget and provide equity analysis to management. Provide guidance on equity strategy and best practices
  • Advise departments regarding compensation philosophy, practices, and programs; provide compensation expertise and analysis to management, talent acquisition, and business partners
  • Manage the job evaluation and exception offer at processes PAX, ensuring the consistent valuation of key job attributes and integration of market data
  • Support the delivery of compensation analysis, providing insight and analysis on trends to drive more informed HR/business decisions
  • Ensure effective communication and clear understanding of compensation plans by employees and executives
  • Provide ongoing and ad-hoc analysis relating to compensation and other people-related metrics
  • Create presentation materials and back-up analyses for Executive Team, Compensation Committee and Board of Director meetings
  • Collaborate with our benefits consultant to develop and administer a full range of benefits programs including program enhancements, benefit contract renewal, service contract administration, benefits enrollment, and leave administration
  • Ensure plans are competitive, cost effective, drive a high performance culture and are aligned with current and future strategic direction.
  • Develop, motivate, and retain a high performing team


  • A minimum of 8 years of experience and progressive responsibility in compensation and benefits, with at least 4 years in a compensation management role
  • Experience with effectively scaling a global total rewards function to support the company’s business goals and growth, with a strong awareness of best practices
  • Understanding of and experience with equity plan administration and different types of equity vehicles (i.e. stock options, RSUs, etc)
  • Experience working with and providing analyses to the Board/Compensation Committee
  • Experience designing and maintaining sales compensation programs
  • Ability to present complex content to a wide variety of audiences and educate/influence as needed
  • Strong analysis/quantitative skills and the ability to translate analysis into actionable tasks; strong understanding of budgets
  • Experience leading and successfully interacting with cross-functional teams, particularly in Finance and Legal
  • Ability and willingness to “roll up your sleeves”.  You will have the ability to grow a team over time, but in the beginning this team will be lean
  • Excellent communication and listening skills; strong team player
  • Must be comfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Strong technical proficiency with HR systems and Google Suite/MS Office tools
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills required.Experience with international compensation administration preferred


  • BA Degree, or equivalent applicable work experience
  • CCP certification or progress towards certification a bonus
