Why We Need You

When you wake up in the morning, the first thing you do is turn to your phone and bring up your favorite Android app. You are happy to try out new mobile apps as they are released, and enjoy praising and critiquing them among your friends. You are passionate about mobile apps, and may or may not have worked on them in the enterprise space yet. But, given the chance, you'd jump at the opportunity to build an app that is far-reaching and shaping the way people see mobile in the IT incident management space.

At PagerDuty, we are building an incident tracking system to help IT operations groups detect and respond to issues. Startups, Fortune 500 companies, and everything in-between rely on us to alert them quickly when they have operational troubles. We are not afraid to use the the latest and greatest tools and languages, such as Swift, for our live production applications. We're looking for an senior-level engineer to join our Mobile Engineering group to help us deliver unique mobile experiences directly to our customers' Apple phones, tablets, and wearable devices.

How You Contribute to our Vision

We're just starting to build our presence in the mobile space, so you'll have a big impact on the future of our Android apps. You will get a chance to work in all of our mobile code bases and the APIs that power them.

  • Lead the design and implementation of new user-facing features in Android
  • Build and develop the core mobile infrastructure and tooling around the mobile frameworks
  • Help drive and define mobile standards by participating in code reviews
  • Collaborate with product, UX and other engineering teams to deliver the highest quality mobile experiences to all of our supported devices
  • Provide guidance, technical leadership, and mentoring to other members of the team

About You

  • Experience with Java, Android SDK and Android Studio
  • Deep experience with Activity/Fragment management and lifecycle, Intents, Broadcast Receivers and Callbacks
  • Great understanding of Android's common software design patterns/frameworks
  • Knowledge of Android performance tools and optimization techniques
  • At least 5 years developing web and/or mobile applications with REST-based APIs
  • Clear communication and ability to understand the needs of our customers
  • Fearlessly self-driven

You May Also Have

  • Knowledge or prior experience with RxJava and Retrofit
  • Exposure to Android testing with Robotium or Espresso
  • Knowledge of MVP application design and reactive, touch-based UI
  • Knowledge or prior exposure to React Native
  • Development experience working on customer-facing apps with web frameworks, such as Ruby on Rails, Django, CakePHP, or similar
  • Contributions to open source projects (doesn't have to be mobile-related)
  • An eye for sleek design
  • Empathy - you can clearly communicate your thoughts and opinions to others
