Senior Manager, Brewing Operations, Packaging Innovation & Technology

Reporting directly to the Senior Director, Brewing Operations, Procurement / Production / Technical, this position is the primary liaison for the Brewing Operations team to both internal and external stake holders for Packaging Innovation & Technology related activities. This role is responsible for leading the development, execution and overall management of packaging innovation initiatives, with a primary focus on Procurement & Supplier related activities. This role will execute development & activities with packaging and artwork suppliers, ensuring alignment to overall strategic objectives as defined by Brewing Operations and Pabst executive leadership.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain and drive prioritized focus on Safety, Quality, Productivity & Financial Performance for project execution and operational business objectives
  • Provide daily / weekly / monthly update reports to colleagues and Brewing Operations leadership team with effective verbal and written communications
  • Identify issues with projects before they arise and implement preventative measures
  • Develop & manage relationships, capabilities & deliverables with raw material suppliers as well as with contract brewing & packaging partners
  • Utilize creativity and innovation in approach toward project execution and continuous improvement, with key focus on tracking and communication transparency
  • Establish key metrics and develop / implement plans to achieve initiative targets & business objectives
  • Partner closely with Senior Manager, Procurement to ensure all raw material supplier activities are consistent and aligned with defined strategies for each partner
  • Own the TTB COLA process for owned and partner operations, collaborating with brewing colleagues on SOP processes, with regulatory and legal colleagues on state and other required processes, and with sales operations / distributor services colleagues on wholesaler authorizations & pricing
  • Manage artwork process with responsibility for 3rd party operations processing all necessary items from marketing & graphics team to “production ready” documents used for COLAs and for all suppliers to use for delivering finished raw materials to production operations
  • Co-lead weekly and ad-hoc innovation meetings with sales and marketing colleagues, facilitating the flow of all appropriate information to ensure initiatives are on track and all stakeholders are properly informed and tasked with required action items
  • Collaborate in the planning and formulation of organization’s policies and practices
  • Monitor expenditures and resources to fulfill project requirements
  • Execute procurement activities to accomplish innovation project goals in a timely manner
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, procedures, and machinery, with familiarity around all brewing operations processes, including but not limited to brewing, cellar / filtering / releasing, quality, packaging lines, warehousing, shipping & maintenance processes
  • Strong analytical skills, highly focused on providing a structured, systematic approach to delivering data-driven solutions
  • Proven ability to manage customer relationships, develop business plans, focus on goals & objectives and displays sense of urgency with bias towards delivering results
  • Effectively operate in a team environment and experience with leading and directing the work of others through direct management and indirect management with strong influential skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, management, critical thinking and technical problem solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time and multiple projects and easily adapt to changing situations
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to rally and motivate an internal and external audience
  • Forward thinker with positive attitude and influence who actively seeks opportunities
  • Proven ability to create and implement policies/programs while influencing change
  • Detail and multi-task oriented; demonstrated ability to successfully juggle competing priorities and sometimes conflicting goals
  • Computer proficiency required, including experience with Excel, Word, Outlook & PowerPoint
  • Willingness to work flexible and extended hours as needed, including weekends and off-shifts as necessary 24/7 role!

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, technical degree highly preferred; Master’s Degree beneficial
  • 5+ years’ business work experience, majority preferably in production / manufacturing facilities
  • 2+ years developing & managing projects
  • 3+ years of increasing leadership and management responsibility
  • Previous work in beverage / CPG industry; brewery experience beneficial
  • Professional certifications in brewing, quality, operations or supply chain management or similar from organizations such as APICS, MBAA, etc. beneficial
  • PMP certification or pursuit of PMP certification valuable
  • Six Sigma belt certifications helpful
  • Understands Lean principles with a focus on processes
