Advanced Industrial Maintenance Specialist

Location: Houston, Texas – United States

Shift: Days may vary/OT is required


The Advanced Plant Maintenance Specialist position is an hourly position in the Roofing plant, reporting to the Maintenance Leader. The employee ensures the maintenance of production equipment by working with the maintenance skilled crafts and working with the production team to troubleshoot and maintain the working order of all production machines and equipment in a safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant condition.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follow and enforce all safety rules, regulations, procedures, training, and initiatives
  • Maintain good housekeeping in all work areas
  • Participate on safety teams
  • Accurately enter data into computer systems
  • Confirm information reported on paperwork before submission
  • Monitor and report unusual or suspect material, product, or equipment issues
  • Ensure the operation of mechanical and electrical systems and equipment by
  • Recommending/performing preventive maintenance requirements on production equipment, PLC’s, and machinery wiring
  • following schematic diagrams, blueprints, and other specifications
  • troubleshooting and repairing
  • Minimize downtime by directing/performing routine preventive maintenance in a cooperative team environment
  • Schedule work of department mechanics and helpers
  • Provide input and status updates during daily planning meetings
  • Prepare maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
  • Enter, confirm, and verify work done as reported in SAP
  • Maintain technical knowledge and certifications


  • Must be able to troubleshoot and program PLC ladder logic on active processors throughout the plant. Must also be capable of writing PLC logic for new functions and/or equipment.
  • Must be able to effectively troubleshoot motor and servo drives.
  • Must be qualified to install and effectively start up sophisticated electronic devices within the plant (servos, PLCs, load cells, and other field devices).
  • Must be qualified to work in electrical panels.
  • Must have the aptitude to read schematics and effectively use supplied documentation for all the above.
  • Must have mechanical knowledge of bearing assemblies, drive assemblies, pumps, and gear boxes

  • Must have welding, cutting, and machining skills
  • Must have PLC knowledge and experience, RSLinks, PLC5
  • Must have thorough electrical knowledge including industrial electrical code
  • Must have basic knowledge of AC, DC, and Servo drive systems
  • Must have pneumatic and hydraulic experience
  • Must be proficient in equipment maintenance, power tools, and technical work
  • Must be able to work with a computer to perform basic data entry
  • Able to lead a team of skilled crafts
  • Must be able to communicate well with all levels of employees
  • Must have the ability to do complex mathematical calculations
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Must be able to work flexible shift schedules
  • Must be able to work rotating schedule
  • Must be able to work on call
  • Regular attendance, timeliness, and scheduling flexibility are required


  • Must be able to operate a computer or other keyboard instrument
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
  • Advanced technical certification/degree (instrumentation, PLC programming, variable speed drives, etc.) is a plus
  • 3 – 10 years of experience in a continuous manufacturing environment or a related field
  • Electrical license is a plus

  • Mandatory overtime as required
