PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Advanced Controls Instrumentation Technician is accountable for leading various electrical controls improvement projects. He/She will also help with troubleshooting and fixes of existing automation machines and various sensing technologies, including but not limited to: PLCs, Motion Controls, Drives, Panel View, Wonderware, advanced sensing and scanning solutions. The position will also play instrumental role in advancing operation reliability (equipment Preventative Maintenance, Total Productive Maintenance, and Predictive Maintenance).

This position is responsible for safely and efficiently maintaining the equipment and facilities needed to produce a high quality product. Job functions include, but are not limited to, short and long term productivity improvement projects, equipment analysis and Root Cause procedures, assist in development and execution of preventative & Predictive maintenance programs.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Advance plant’s safety culture through improving equipment reliability and eliminate upset conditions
  • Interact and coordinate with plant operation to design and implement safety improvement projects.
  • Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work in a safe, efficient manner consistent with the duties of an Advanced Controls and Instrumentation Technician.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of the NEC and NFPA 70E codes and requirements of work place electrical safe practices and procedures.
  • Ensure a safe and clean environmentally compliant work environment and building a culture where safety is a first priority
  • Ability to work in teams and be a team builder.
  • Must have commanding knowledge in various AB PLCs platforms, PanelView, Wonderware, various motion controls systems, AC/DC and VFD drives.
  • Implement programming changes to existing PLC programs and develop PLC programming changes for small size improvement projects.
  • Read and analyze ladder and relay logic diagrams, and read electrical and mechanical prints.
  • Work from information obtained from engineering drawings, electrical diagrams, simple and complex sketches as well as other related documents and verbal field instructions necessary to perform assigned duties
  • Management small to medium size engineering projects.
  • Lead and install multiple inspection systems, including laser scanning technologies and vision systems.
  • Troubleshoot and fix various polystyrene foam extruding, finishing, and packaging machinery.
  • Troubleshoots electrical, electronic and pneumatic systems
  • Understand multiple sensing technologies (Optical and proximity sensors, Laser sensors, and limit switches).
  • Good understanding of the various building blocks of an industrial automation system.
  • Maintain, constructs, installs, repairs and calibrates any plant electrical, instrument, and metering equipment
  • Participate in the preventive and predictive maintenance program for any plant electrical, electronic and instrument equipment or control system
  • Implementing predictive maintenance programs such as thermography, ultrasound, and vibration analysis
  • Complete Daily work records and activity reports
  • Participate in the safety and good housekeeping programs as established within the plant
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the nature of the job as directed by management

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The employee should hold the following abilities:

  • Must be able to read all types of blueprints and schematics.
  • Must be able to use different types of electrical meters associated with the task to troubleshoot electrical/electronic problems
  • Must have the ability to multi-task
  • Has the ability to troubleshoot Hydraulic / pneumatic systems
  • Ability to design and manage conduit, wiring, and electrical equipment as needed
  • Ability to document changes in written formats
  • Ability to read, understand, and make changes to PLC logic
  • Must be able to plan and execute in written form a safe job plan utilizing electrical safe work practices
  • Ability to install and set-up electrical power distribution devices including blade switches, circuit breakers, relays, etc.
  • Knowledge in Vision Systems and laser gauging systems is preferred.

COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPETENCIES

The employee must be able to:

  • Must be able to operate a computer
  • Learn SAP system
  • Read, understand, and program PLC Logic
  • Upload, Download and Save PLC Programs
  • Ability to implement programming changes to PanelView and Wonderware.
  • Ability to install and configure AC/DC drives.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

The employee should have the following:

  • Minimum of 2 year program in electrical engineering technology or equivalent is required
  • Has experience operating a forklift and man lift, valid existing certification preferred.
  • Must be a eligible to work in the US on a permanent basis.
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must be drug and alcohol free
  • Strong knowledge in PLC programming/troubleshooting experience
