Program Description: The Furnace Development Program (FDP) is designed to prepare engineers to serve as Furnace Leaders in Owens Corning manufacturing plants in our Insulating Systems Business and Composites Solutions Business. The program duration is 24 months, with about half of the time spent in an Owens Corning manufacturing plant and half at Owens Corning’s Science & Technology Center. During this time, participants will be mentored by seasoned technical professionals and will be challenged by the varied technical and leadership challenges found in a manufacturing environment.

Plant based development includes:
- Safety leadership
- Supervisory leadership
- Furnace operations and other technologies
- Operational systems and management
In addition, the participant will be expected to develop the following competencies essential to being an effective manufacturing leader:
- Creativity
- Customer driven
- Analytics & data based decision making
- Works effectively and cooperatively with others
- Elevates performance of self and others
- Inspirational leadership
At the conclusion of their training, the Furnace Development Program graduate is placed in a full-time assignment as a Furnace Leader at an Owens Corning manufacturing plant or a role providing furnace support to Owens Corning manufacturing plants.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
- Previous internships/co-ops in a manufacturing setting
- Willingness and flexibility to relocate
- Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Ceramic Engineering or Materials Science, or an equivalent field
Location of Assignment: For the plant portion of development, various locations throughout the US, including Amarillo, TX, Fairburn, GA, Kansas City, KS, Starr, SC, and Waxahachie, TX; and the Science & Technology Center in Granville, OH for the other half of program. Placement upon graduation is expected at a manufacturing plant in North America.
