Software Engineer (Data Infrastructure)

Data is the foundation of Opendoor’s unique business. As a Senior Software Engineer on our Data Infrastructure team you will be defining, prototyping, and building data systems, services, and pipelines to power all organizations and define the future of the company. You will drive the development of impactful projects(design, execution, review) and work with the Engineering Manager and Product Manager to define longer-term strategies(team roadmaps, prioritization, engineer mentorship).

Your responsibilities include:

  • Building robust data platforms and infrastructures that empowers all teams at Opendoor
  • Improving Opendoor’s overall data quality 
  • Mentoring engineers on the team
  • Improving team’s operational processes and efficiency
  • Willingness to become a domain expert in real estate data

We’re looking for teammates who have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience
  • A deep understanding of data processing technologies such as SQL, Spark, and Hadoop
  • The ability to propose and test hypothesis to problems, and drive toward the best solution whilst starting with incomplete information
  • A passion for learning new technologies and different ways to solve problems
  • Experience with Airflow or other ETL scheduling technologies
  • Experience with building resilient and reliable systems or data pipelines
  • A focus on rapid delivery without sacrificing technical excellence
  • Strong communication(oral and written)
  • A customer-focused mentality
  • A history of being reliable and accountable
  • Care for modular, performant and testable code
  • 5+ years of professional work experience

Bonus points:

  • Love delighting customers with honest, transparent products and experiences
  • Experience working with AWS, microservice architecture, Python/Go/Scala, Kubernetes
  • Experience working with GIS Data
