As part of OneWeb's Cloud, DevOps and Digital Transformation, we’re seeking a Network Engineer to help transform the way we connect. The Network Engineering team is responsible for operating that network reliably and at scale. As a member of the team, you have a direct impact on design and feature enhancements to keep our systems running smoothly. You also ensure that network operations are safe and efficient by monitoring network performance, coordinating planned maintenance, adjusting hardware components, and responding to network connectivity issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead Planning: Conducts short- and long-term planning to meet network requirements
  • Network System Design and Implementation: Designs and implements network systems
  • Strong working familiarity with Cisco IOS and/or Juniper JUNOS with hands-on experience configuring routers, switches and firewalls
  • Network Connectivity: Provides support for network connectivity or related network issues for the user community
  • Network Installation: Plans and monitors the installation of network systems
  • Network Monitoring: Analyzes network activity and network problems to discover and prevent systematic errors. Recommends network design changes/enhancements for improved systems availability and performance
  • Issue Resolution: Troubleshoots, diagnoses and resolves network problems. Researches, analyzes and recommends the implementation of software or hardware changes to rectify any network deficiencies or to enhance network performance
  • Capacity Planning: Analyzes facilities bandwidth requirements and system interdependencies. Develops capacity planning models
  • Disaster Recovery: Ensures planned testing activities are performed and technical criteria are met
  • Network Performance Assessment: Assesses network performance to ensure that it meets the present and future needs of the business. Provides network planning recommendations to management

  • Vendor Management: Evaluates services provided by vendors and recommends changes
  • Knowledge of Enterprise system monitoring and management tools such as Netcordia NetMRI, Cisco MARS, Splunk, What’s Up Gold, Wireshark, Websense, MRTG and NMAP
  • Knowledge of commercial enterprise-level tools and products to provide network services, including: firewalls, IPS/IDS, DNS, DHCP, web security, TACACS+, VPN and NAC
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with SAWS staff and the general public
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to provide the “Fischer Price” explanation of technology for nontechnical managers, directors and above. Great people skills are a must!
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required
  • Ability to act as Network Engineering Manager in the absence of the manager

Required Skills & Experience: 

  • 5+ years of experience in Network Security, preferably in a large scale environment
  • Working knowledge of JunOS, IOS, stateful firewall platforms, and networking
  • Background in network service, content provider operation, or larger scale hosting
  • Understanding of current security issues and threats
  • Understanding of Python, Shell or Perl in order to push software and network interaction Understanding of risks that can manifest in larger scale complex systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • AWS Prior understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Experience with multi-tiered mission-critical systems
  • Worked in a Zero Downtime environment
  • Solid hands-on technical background particularly in managing highly complex, multi-platform environments (servers, storage, networks, security, virtualization, systems monitoring and management)
  • ISO 27001, PCI, HITRUST, SOC, FISMA, FedRAMP knowledge
  • Familiar with network analysis tools (wireshark, tcpdump, etc)
  • Gigamon, Lancope, Fortinet, F5 Load Balancers, ACLs (software defined), and Certificate management/provisioning
  • Security related certifications such as OSCP, GCIH, GCIA, GPEN, GPPA, CCNP, CCNP Security, CCIE Security
