Director of Business Development

Reporting to the VP of Business Development, the Director of Business Development will develop and own OneWeb’s strategy to identify new lines of business above and beyond OneWeb’s communications services including, but not limited to: satellite flight operations services, satellite flight operations solutions, ride-share launch services, hosted payloads, and OneWeb constellation data services.


  • Responsible for developing and managing the relationship between the organization and potential partners/acquisition candidates by establishing and cultivating relationships with key individuals at target companies
  • Identifies and develops new opportunities across the globe using an analytical and creative approach
  • Identifies and develops technical concepts supporting Adjacent Business objectives and works closely with OneWeb technical leaders to further refine technical concepts to match specific customer opportunities
  • Identifies opportunities for business expansion, and develops and manages relationships in strategic markets and accounts that further business development activity
  • Directs the identification and pursuit of new strategic relationships
  • Works with and represents the organization to executive level contacts at outside companies and on professional panels
  • Works with marketing, sales and technology groups to implement business development strategy into specific initiatives
  • Analyzes market data to identify opportunities and create ‘out-of-the-box’ growth initiatives
  • Participation in strategic planning, budgeting, business planning; articulate and translate strategy into actionable BD initiatives; forecast new business, renewals and timing of BD projects/initiatives
  • Execution of BD budget and business plan to help secure top line business goals
  • Manage the BD strategy and capture campaigns throughout their life cycle; analyze solicitations and appropriately define resource requirements and budgets
  • Provide transformational leadership within and outside of the BD team to create an open and collaborative culture across the organization
  • Ensure OneWeb's reputation and brand are maintained and enhanced with every external engagement
  • Maintain and enhance engagement with critical stakeholders across OneWeb to ensure maximum participation, coordination and probability of win
  • Effectively manage opportunities and appropriately assess their value to the company
  • Build highly effective relationships with customers and future business partners
  • Analyze opportunities, requirements and bid evaluation criteria to develop the effective win strategies

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or engineering discipline required, advanced degree preferred; willing to accept a combination of education and work experience in lieu of the stated educational requirement
  • 15 years of relevant experience in the space industry
  • Strong experience directly managing a team of employees
  • Demonstrated experience managing large, complex initiatives in a competitive environment
  • Ability to deliver successful projects on time, through the leadership of teams, both internal and external
  • Must have exceptional writing and communication skills; willingness to speak publicly with industry and customers
  • Must have exceptional time management skills
  • Proven experience in a telecom environment, terrestrial or satellite
  • Comprehensive understanding of satellite technology, including satellite operations and ground systems
  • Experience in multiple markets across the world highly preferred
  • Experience developing and successfully meeting a business case
  • Customer focused both internally and externally
  • The position requires an innovative, “out of the box” thinker who can facilitate internal collaborative technical discussions to conceptualize and define our service offerings and future enhancements
  • Must be willing to travel
  • Current security clearance preferred
