Job Description

One Acre Fund Tanzania currently serves over 17,000 farmers in the southern highlands of Tanzania with goals to expand to serve over 50,000 farmers across the country in the next two years. 

The Product Innovations Department deepens the impact of our program by designing and executing trials to test the efficacy of new products and services which will be offered to our farmers. Product Innovations also works to improve the quality of our agricultural trainings and core product offerings. A Product Innovations Project Specialist will work closely with Impact Leadership on design, planning, management, execution and analysis of trials. You will receive mentorship and support from Innovations Staff to work towards owning and seeing these trials through to fruition, with the goal of bringing impact-generating products to scale. These trials will be evaluated based on key performance indicators and the impact generated per client.

This is an exciting and dynamic role with the potential to fully own projects and see direct impact with small holder farmers in Tanzania. In this role, you will contribute to the growth of One Acre Fund Tanzania and will be involved in key strategic decision making for the future.

Potential Major Projects

Non Maize Crops

  • One Acre Fund Tanzania currently offers only maize at scale. In the next 2-3 years we hope to offer beans and several other crops that will bring impact to our farmers.
  • Trials will involve careful monitoring in the field and focused work on boosting adoption.

Home Solar Systems

  • As we seek to expand our solar product offerings, we’ll look towards larger units that will bring solar power to farmer homes. Work will focus on driving adoption, measuring impact and thinking about structuring loans to facilitate successful repayment.

Cook Stoves

  • In addition to agricultural products, One Acre Fund Tanzania is looking to increase impact within farmer households.
  • Cook Stove work in Tanzania will focus on identifying the correct models, marketing them to farmers and accurately assessing impact. 

General Responsibilities

Note: These responsibilities are relatively flexible and will continually evolve based on organizational priorities and your interests:

Farmer Level Trial Management

  • Monitor sourcing and quality control of products or inputs
  • Design and manage farmer level trials, confirming results from Research Stations and assessing farmer feasibility
  • Collaborate with and support Field Staff in the messaging, management and monitoring of trials
  • Work with leadership to develop Monitoring and Evaluation of products in the field
  • Monitor Data Quality
  • Analyze relevant data and create reports summarizing key findings and recommendations

Field Ops Support and Marketing for Adoption Trials

  • Monitor sourcing and quality control of products or inputs
  • Prepare relevant marketing materials
  • Manage Adoption Trials, supporting Field Staff in marketing, enrollment, training and distribution of products
  • Monitor Key Performance Indicators critical to the success of the trial through intensive field supervision
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop Monitoring and Evaluation of products in field
  • Monitor data quality
  • Analyze relevant data and create reports summarizing key findings and recommendations

We are seeking an exceptional professional(s) with relevant work experience and ideally a demonstrated passion for international development. Candidates who fit the following criteria are strongly encouraged to apply:

  • Graduate of a 4-year University (mandatory)
    • Graduate degree in sciences (strongly preferred)
  • 2 years minimum practical experience working on product design and/or marketing in a rural setting
  • 1-2 years experience managing projects with measurable outcomes
  • Understanding of best practices in experimental design concepts, such as control group selection and randomization
  • Familiarity in Microsoft Excel, specifically:
    • Ability to design basic data entry spreadsheets in database format using data validation
    • Ability to extract summary statistics using both pivot tables and formulae
    • Previous experience in working with large datasets of data
  • Experience using statistical packages such as SPSS, STATA or R, ideally:
    • Conducting basic inferential tests (t-test, regressions etc)
  • Excellent ability to communicate in logical, clear, and relevant manner both verbally and in writing
  • Open to feedback, willing to admit mistakes and seek opportunities for continual growth
  • Fluent Swahili and very high-level English.
  • Willingnesss to travel to remote sites and supervise work in Mbeya


Preferred Start Date




Starts modest. However, this is a career-track role with raises for performance.
