Position: Director, Distribution, Trade, and GPO Lead

The Distribution, Trade, and GPO Lead will report to the Head of Access and Distribution, and will be a key member of the core project teams responsible for planning and commercializing Oncopeptides’ first therapy, melflufen, in the US.  The role is responsible for negotiating contracts with specialty distributors, specialty pharmacies, and GPOs, while ensuring alignment with and endorsement from global headquarters. This role will also be integral in acting as the US lead overseeing melflufen supply chain and distribution activities from the point of receipt of vials in the US from Europe, to labeling/packaging vendor, to 3rd party logistics vendor, and through the distribution network to end customers.


The position will collaborate closely with cross-functional leaders, including Marketing, Sales, Commercial Operations, Legal/Compliance, QA, Finance, and Manufacturing/Supply Chain. Success will require the individual to have relevant oncology launch experience and develop strong cross-functional relationships to effectively influence decision-making across the organization, both in the US and at global HQ.


This position is based in Waltham, MA or remote with travel to Waltham and other channel partners as needed.  

Domestic and international travel up to 30%.


Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with key internal teams including the Director of Pricing and Contracting, Director of Market Access and Marketing, Director of Patient Support and Reimbursement Services, and the National Access Account Director.

  • Lead launch planning process for trade strategies that guarantee product supply to customers.

  • Conduct GMP/GDP oversight of selected vendors for commercial supply

  • Collaborate with others to conduct supply chain risk management process

  • Primary liaison for all Contract Manufacturing & 3PL activities including scheduling, issue resolution, change implementation, performance monitoring and development, contract negotiation etc.

  • Develop policies and procedures for orders, returns, inventory, and other distribution related policies.

  • Maintain, adapt and implement robust Cold Chain shipping solutions as required.

  • Coordinate with Supply Chain to manage product shipment logistics, inventory levels, etc.

  • Improve programs, set supply chain metrics and goals to manage costs, establish strategies to deliver cost improvements and improved drug access.

  • Identify and recommend GPO-specific opportunities to appropriately position melflufen with provider network

  • Negotiate contracts with select specialty distributors, specialty pharmacies, and oncology GPOs.

  • Ensure data integrity and adequate data flows between the company and distribution vendors and trade partners; develop and disseminate distribution related analytics and reporting to ensure accurate information and timeliness.

  • Manage pricing actions with customers and Compendia.

  • Maintain budget, including promotional spend, with minimal over/under spending.

  • Support implementation of track and trace and product serialization to comply with Drug Quality and Security Act and Drug Supply Chain Security Act.

  • Engage in the set-up of ERP system.

  • Ensure state distribution licenses remain current, renewing as applicable.

  • Manage the custom clearance of the product in US

  • Contribute as an active member of the US Oncopeptides Commercial Leadership Team.

  • Effectively manage external vendor/partner relationships to ensure high quality services, the utmost compliance with Oncopeptides’ and industry policies, practices, and regulations.



Ideal Experience:

  • B.S./B.A. Degree or higher, advanced degree preferred.

  • Specialty pharmacies/Biotech industry experience and Oncology GPOs required with at least 10+ years of experience working with wholesale/distributors.

  • Proven track record of leading distribution and trade processes while ensuring pharmaceutical regulations are met.

  • Ability to network and gain new relationships with specialty distributors, specialty pharmacies, and oncology GPOs.

  • Relevant experience with drug distribution processes, with understanding of pharmaceutical supply chain distribution processes (specific to oncology is a plus).

  • Extensive knowledge of laws and regulations that govern contracting and pricing for pharmaceutical products.

  • Experience driving complex contract negotiations, ensuring competitive advantage with end-customers.

  • Excellent analytical skills and solid understanding of major market reimbursement systems, current health policy topics and working knowledge of medical and pharmacy benefit dollar flows.

  • Deep understanding and compliance with the OIG and FDA regulations governing pharmaceutical marketing and the PhRMA code.

  • Excellent communications skills with stakeholders at all levels of the organization; possess a persuasive and credible presentation style.
