Freelance Web Analyst, Marketing Analytics

Role Overview:

Ogilvy is seeking an experienced freelance web analyst who is immediately available to join the Marketing Analytics group in Chicago. This is an important role supporting a large global client as part of a multi-disciplinary team, with additional responsibilities across digital analytics.


  • Collaborate with clients and agency team to align objectives and metrics, employing benchmarks and historical data to set targets and estimate performance projections
  • Manage all aspects of web analytics requirements, tagging, configuration, documentation, and validation, including coordination with web designers, developers, and IT partners
  • Manage web test design, execution, and analysis; collaborate with digital partners, including IA/UX, content strategy, CRM, and media, to recommend and develop optimizations
  • Develop URL query-string conventions and work with agency and third-party partners to implement and maintain across channels driving traffic to managed web sites
  • Manage data extraction, auditing, and reporting, focusing on representation of data for meaningful observation and recommendation; serve as subject-matter expert on client data
  • Monitor marketing activities and external factors for effects on metrics; stay up-to-date with best practices, third-party services, and trends in digital marketing and analytics



  • 3-5 years of experience working with marketing analytics, database marketing, and/or data programming and processing, including at the consumer and transactional levels
  • 3-5 years of experience with development of measurement frameworks, key metrics and targets, as well as dashboards, scorecards, or other forms of standard reporting
  • Prior experience collaborating with digital and CRM team members, database and web developers, and account, project, and creative managers preferred
  • Prior experience in agency, consulting, or other professional services preferred
  • Degree in quantitative or information services field


  • Proficiency with Excel and Powerpoint
  • Proficiency with web analytics and optimization tools (Webtrends preferred)
  • Proficiency with tag management tools (Google Tag Manager and Tealium preferred)
  • Able to balance multiple projects, tight timelines, ad hoc requests, and scheduled tasks
  • Strong data analysis and spreadsheet capabilities; can build robust business cases
  • Attention to detail as well as ability to “drill up” to insights and make recommendations
  • Familiarity with test design (control/treatment, A/B/n, multivariate, fractional factorial)


  • Familiarity with extracting and processing data with APIs, REST URIs, and Regex
  • Familiarity with basic web coding (HTML, JavaScript)
  • Familiarity with mobile app tracking and reporting
  • Familiarity with dashboarding and/or visualization tools (ex. Tableau, Qlikview, Xcelsius)
  • Familiarity with digital and social media tools (ex. DoubleClick, FB Insights, Sysomos)
  • Familiarity with statistical methods, such as regression, analysis of variance, clustering
