Consultant, Marketing Analytics


Ogilvy is seeking a consultant-level analyst to join the Marketing Analytics group in Chicago. This is an important role supporting a large global client as part of a multi-disciplinary team, with responsibilities across CRM and digital analytics.


  • Collaborate with clients and agency team to align objectives and metrics, employing benchmarks and historical data to set targets and estimate performance projections
  • Support audience segmentation for email and other direct channels based upon provided, matched, or modeled demographics, digital engagement, and purchase related behaviors
  • Manage all aspects of data extraction, processing, and reporting, including programming, error checking, auditing, and debugging; serve as subject-matter expert on client data
  • Deliver insights & recommendations, through regular reports and ad hoc requests, that reflect a deep understanding of marketing program and external drivers
  • Design and conduct analytical studies, employing appropriate research design and statistical methods; as needed, support modeling projects
  • Work with client and third-party technical partners to understand and troubleshoot issues relating to data infrastructure and quality
  • Coordinate with web designers and developers, as well as third-party partners, for web analytics tracking, configuration, documentation, and validation
  • Stay up-to-date with and communicating best practices, competitor activities, third-party services, and trends with data in relationship and digital marketing



  • 3-5 years of total experience working with marketing analytics, database marketing, and/or data programming and processing, including at the consumer and transactional levels
  • 2-4 years of experience with development of measurement frameworks, key metrics and targets, and providing cross-functional teams with insights using dashboards, scorecards, or other forms of analysis
  • 2-4 years of experience in CRM, including direct marketing, database marketing, data planning, enterprise reporting, and/or multi-channel integrated communications
  • Prior experience collaborating with CRM and digital team members, database and web developers, and account, project, and creative managers preferred
  • Prior experience in agency, consulting, or other professional services preferred
  • Degree in quantitative or information services field


  • Proficiency with Excel and Powerpoint
  • Proficiency with SQL, database concepts (windowed queries and analytics functions), and tools (ex. HeidiSQL, Toad, SSMS)
  • Strong data analysis and spreadsheet capabilities; can build robust business cases
  • Attention to detail as well as ability to "drill up" to insights and make recommendations
  • Able to balance multiple projects, tight timelines, ad hoc requests, and scheduled tasks
  • Experience with R strongly preferred, familiarity with other data and statistical tools such as SAS and SPSS a plus
  • Familiarity with dashboarding tools (ex. Tableau)
  • Experience with statistical methods, such as regression, analysis of variance, clustering
  • Experience with test design (control/treatment, A/B/n, multivariate, fractional factorial)


  • Familiarity with CRM tools, such as UNICA, Epiphany, Eloqua, or Marketo
  • Familiarity with email platforms (ex. Yesmail, ExactTarget, Responsys, CheetahMail)
  • Familiarity with digital and social media tools (ex. DoubleClick, FB Insights, Crimson Hexigon)
  • Experience with web analytics tools (ex. Google Analytics, Omniture, Webtrends)
