Position Description

Ogilvy Public Relations San Francisco is seeking an experienced communications professional to join a dynamic account team working on public affairs, sustainability, public interest and grassroots issues across the West Coast. This is an opportunity to work exclusively with a prominent national government client and create impactful work that advances regional and national sustainability and resilience campaigns.

The Account Supervisor, PR and Community Affairs will work collaboratively with colleagues in San Francisco and 10 regional offices nationwide, to accomplish significant results in the areas of raising understanding of local flooding vulnerabilities and transforming that knowledge into action to reduce risks at the local level. Among stakeholder audiences are Federal officials, State and local officials, community planners, emergency managers, professional groups, businesses, and local residents.

The ideal candidate will have between 3-5 years of communications, outreach and/or engagement experience and a background in corporate communications that demonstrates a mastery of all core public relations skills, including: writing, editing, media relations, pitch development and message development, and have experience in developing communications plans, account management and client relationship management. S/he is a team player, works well in fast-paced, complex environments, and is a natural writer and problem solver.

  • Day-to-day liaison with program partners and stakeholder groups to advance outreach goals;
  • Planning and executing outreach initiatives with community leaders and other key stakeholders;
  • Developing and executing training program modules, including coordination with program partners and stakeholders
  • Support for product development and improvement, including synthesizing research findings into recommendations for product improvement, and
  • Completing assigned projects while balancing other responsibilities within the team.

Who Are We Looking For?

  • 3 – 5 years of PR experience in a public relations or government agency environment with an emphasis on community engagement strongly preferred;
  • Prior knowledge of government agencies, crisis management, and/or corporate communications is a plus;
  • Experience conducting communication outreach to emergency management professional and local official audiences is a plus;
  • Must be media-savvy and able to think strategically about issues and message development;
  • Media relations experience a must; relationships with emergency management, health or safety media preferred;
  • Demonstrated experience with partnership development and community outreach, including event planning experience;
  • Continually seeks new ways to learn and improve;
  • Exhibits a sense of curiosity about client work and seeks more information and knowledge in response;
  • Strong strategic and creative thinking;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Superior writing and editing skills;
