Network Operations Engineer

Main Purpose of This Role

The Network Operations Engineer provides design, implementation, operations, and security support for the O3b global IP network, which complements our cutting edge Ka band spacecraft constellation.

Key Areas of Responsibility and Accountability

  • Support Network Operations Centre providing Tier-3 support
  • Take an active role in developing and training operations engineers
  • Develop and update Standard Operationg Procedures for use in the Network Operations Centre
  • Troubleshoot critical performance and stability issues in a timely fashion
  • Assist in the full life cycle deployment and management required to establish and support a global service provider network
  • Perform design validation and optimization of network infrastructure
  • Provide installation support for the network deployment during the initial phase and for future projects
  • Assist in the development of product enhancements to support the O3b product portfolio
  • Generate and maintain appropriate documentation for internal and external consumption on all aspects of the network infrastructure
  • Provide remote on-call support as part of an agreed rota

Requirements

  • US Citizen, Green Card holder or US Permanent Resident

Education/Degree: 

  • BS degree in Engineering or Computer Science
  • Juniper certifications and experience preferred e.g. JNCIS / JNCIP 
  • Cisco certifications, e.g. CCNP

Experience: 

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in IP internetworking, preferably with 3 or more years in the satellite, telco or service provider arena
  • Demonstrated understanding of BGP, OSPF and MPLS, Layer 2/3 VPNs and  IPsec
  • Understanding of network security methodologies and tools, including firewall policy, IPS/IDP, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems, e.g. Snort, Tipping Point, STRM, etc.
  • Practical knowledge and experience of real-world network security
  • Knowledge and deployment experience of Quality of Service within a network
  • Familiarity with the MX, SRX, EX Juniper product lines
  • Experience with Unix / Linux systems administration and creation shell scripts to automate tasks
  • Network analysis and management experience using TCP/IP, SNMP, NTP, DNS, SSH, etc.
  • Experience with vendor element management systems (Cisco Works, Junos Space)
  • Understanding of 2G, 3G, 4G RAN systems and cellular backhaul
  • Experience with physical design best practices, e.g., rack installation, cabling and management
  • Experience with monitoring tools
  • Experience in a start-up environment and proven track record of working on complex projects with multiple reporting lines

Specific Knowledge & Skills:

  • Excellent command of MS Office package (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio)
  • Knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems
  • Working knowledge of high level scripting languages desirable
  • Good communication skills in English, both in writing and verbal
  • Excellent presentation and analytical skills
