Internship - Security for Satellite M2M/IoT Services

Luxembourg - Betzdorf

6-month internship, starting in Mai 2018 (flexible)

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of the Systems Engineering team within SES Networks in a fast-paced, global organization within an innovative and unique industry. Based in Luxembourg, you will research and experiment with state-of-the-art cyber security technologies, such as device encryption, security protocols and certification, but also cyber threads to satellite constellation.

Your responsibilities

  • Review and elaborate IoT cyber security threads, in particular their type, probability, frequency and impact on a company;
  • Perform state of the art review of IoT security by considering an end-to-end communication infrastructures including satellite links;
  • Design a security test lab composed of different embedded systems, single board computers and laptops to experiment with device encryption, security protocols and certification;
  • Identify areas which require further investigations and propose a way forward;
  • Document your research findings in a Technical Report (or MSc Thesis).

Your profile

  • Advanced Master's student in ICT, Security, Networking or in a relevant technical area;
  • Strong computer programming language skills in particular in C/C++ and Python with assembler being an asset;
  • Strong background in Unix based operating systems, bare metal programming and processor architectures;
  • Good knowledge of computer security on operating system, network protocol and device security level. Having a background in ethical hacking is considered an asset;
  • Experienced with cross-development environment for embedded systems;
  • Excellent analytical and judgment skills;
  • Ability to set priorities and to work under tight deadlines;
  • Computer literate (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel);
  • Work independently as well as in a team;
  • Easiness to communicate at all levels;
  • Fluency in spoken and written English with additional languages considered an asset;
  • EU nationality or work permit for Luxembourg.
