Energy Segment Market Management

The role will lead the strategy, development and positioning of O3b’s products, services and solutions into the Energy market vertical, including on-shore/off-shore oil & gas, resources/mining and related customer applications. The role will co-ordinate and lead a cross-functional set of internal/external resources including Product Management, Engineering, Suppliers, Partners, Sales and Marketing to deliver Industry leading solution propositions.

Key Areas of Responsibility and Accountability

  • Segment Accountability for O3b Energy applications, which could include Oil, Gas, Mining, Exploration and other relevant market segmentation aspects
  • Analyse and communicate deep insights into Energy Applications, with focus on End User Business Processes, End User IT Architectures, Systems and Software, Quality of Experience and Business Case rationale
  • Assessment of future technology evolution; e.g. Digital Oil Field, SmartGrid and IoT, including the supporting IT/WAN/Software Applications beyond and around the O3b solution
  • Develop and Maintain the Segment Strategy – including Go-To-Market approach, Alliances/ Channels, Pricing Strategy, and End-to-End Solution Packaging
  • Accountable for Segment Success, measured by Sales, Revenues and RoI on required development
  • Creation of Value Propositions for the Segment, Delivery and Evangelising to Customers and Industry Forums
  • Supervise the development of the Energy marketing collateral including product brochures, presentations, white papers, trade show displays, and ads
  • Developing specific customer opportunities with Sales and Business Development for new customers and applications within the Segment
  • Defining Segment Market Requirements and Priorities, working those requirements with O3b PLM
    Close collaboration with O3b Sales and Pre-Sales to maximise success within the Segment
  • Other duties as assigned by the O3b CMO in support of the Business


  • US Citizen, Green Card holder or US Permanent Resident


  • Bachelor degree (preferably) in IT, Engineering and other related disciplines
  • Preferred qualifications: Master’s degree/MBA/IT WAN certifications


  • Business savvy in addition to technical, Networking and IT bias in addition to Satellite knowledge
  • Product Marketing, Competitive Intelligence, Market Intelligence/Analytics
  • Operations and Business background from within Digital Energy
  • Excellent command of MS Office package (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio)
  • Strong analytical and process skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both in writing and verbal to CxO level, large industry forums and sales workshops

Specific Knowledge & Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in relevant IT/Business/Technical role in Energy Applications or other relevant markets
  • Experience within the specific segment, either end customer or Telco/VAR serving end customers
  • Experience of technical alliances/applications within the e2e IT architectures
  • Strong technical understanding of evolving Digital Energy Applications and IT Operations
  • Detailed knowledge of end user business priorities, process, success factors
  • Detailed knowledge of Operational Systems, IT and Applications leveraged by the end customers
  • Detailed knowledge of the enterprise applications used in the Energy industry including ERP applications such as Oracle and SAP, Logistics, Geometrics, Drilling Operations, Oceanics, Crew Welfare and other relevant systems, both in traditional and cloud-based architectures.
  • Working knowledge of network architecture, IP routing and Ethernet switching protocols and functionality, IP routers, Ethernet switches, VoIP, video conferencing, mobile networks and applications, and Energy IT systems requirements
  • Understanding of new product development, implementation & management, including: market trends/analysis, NPI process, product roadmap development, product life-cycle management
