Director, Gateway Infrastructure

Main Purpose of This Role

The Director of Gateway Infrastructure has overall responsibility for Operations of the O3b Gateways to insure resources are available to support SES Networks Business and Customer needs, establishes and maintains Gateway capital and operational expenses, and facilitates Regulatory and Legal requirements for the establishment and operation of the Gateways in each of their respective countries.

The Director reports to the Solutions and Infrastructure and manages a Team of Operations personnel to achieve the objectives of on time deployment of Gateway assets, continued Operation and Maintenance (O&M) of Gateway equipment, management of Gateway Service Agreements with individual Providers, Gateway longevity and sustainability, and local government compliance for Gateway Operations.

Key Areas of Responsibility and Accountability

  • Overall responsibility for specifying, procuring, and implementing the Gateway ground systems and connectivity to fulfill Customer Service Orders and SLAs
  • Manage cost and schedules for Gateway deployment, installation, operations, maintenance, customer equipment installations, technology upgrades, and constellation growth
  • Develop and implement strategic business plans ensuring Gateway resources support overall Business Plan
  • Manage Gateway operating expenses to include facility leases, remote hands, and network services
  • Coordinates with Product Development, Systems Engineering and Asset Management on requested features or enhancements, technical challenges, and customer service support
  • Prepare and present Gateway status and plans presentations
  • Continuously evaluates Gateway Provider performance and establishes roadmap for excellence for all Gateways
  • Ensure all systems, methods, and procedures are in place to meet daily task requirements in timely, efficient and cost-effective manner
  • Insures that Gateway monitoring and support requirements are defined and integrated into the Network Operations Center
  • Consistently monitor all processes to ensure best practices are followed and completed
  • Develop and maintain a strong team through proper selection & on-going training and development
  • Develop close working relationships with all Internal departments, such as, Sales, Customer Service, IT, and Finance to handle priorities to ensure support plans are in place to maintain long-term customer satisfaction
  • Drive effective change which will directly contribute to reduced costs, enhanced efficiency, and other company wide improvements

Requirements

  • US Citizen, Green Card holder or US Permanent Resident

Education/Degree:

  • Master's degree (preferably) in Engineering or Equivalent experience

Qualifications & Experience:

  • ITIL experience preferred
  • Advanced business acumen required (or MBA)
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Satellite communications with an emphasis on Teleport operations and Management
  • Ability to plan and execute complex legal matters related to Gateway Regulatory, Legal, Customs, and licensing issues
  • Strong leadership ability to develop, motivate and lead a diverse team
  • In depth knowledge of Satellite ground systems
  • Strong Vendor & Subcontractor management experience
  • Contract negotiation skills
  • Experience with building and managing budgets
  • Experience with running schedules and /or Project Management experience
