The Integrated Avionics Systems (IAS) team at Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is looking for you to join our team as a Chief Systems Engineer based out of Woodland Hills, CA.

What You'll get to Do:

As Chief Systems Engineer you will join our team which is working to upgrade the aging cockpits of H-1 and other Helicopter platforms with state-of-the-art digital cockpit capabilities for the United States Marine Corps, Army and the allied nations. The position will report to the Systems Engineering Manager and should be familiar with and well versed in current Integrated Avionics System (IAS) technologies, architectures and mission capabilities applicable to one or more relevant rotary or fixed wing platforms. The selected candidate will work directly with the USMC and Army customer counterparts to define their mission needs, and will lead Northrop Grumman and supplier teams in the technical development of platform architectures using modeling tools and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methods. The position will also support business development activities through participation in proposal engagements.

Additional responsibilities:

Serve as the technical authority for the development and maintenance of products and product lines.
Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer/product requirements into total system solutions that acknowledge technical, time, cost, availability, risk and other constraints.
Coordinate with Customers, and Northrop Grumman individual Integrated Product Team (IPT) Leads and Engineers, Project Engineering Leads and Functional Directorates to ensure the integrity and successful execution of programs and the development and deployment of the technical baselines.
Define TPMs, KPPs, KPAs, MOEs, etc. and ensures that the required and expected product technical approaches and configurations are achievable given the constraints.
Lead all aspects of system technical lifecycle analysis, development and oversight involving schedule, cost, risks, concepts, architectures, safety, cyber, human factors, designs, manufacturing, verification and validation, installation, demonstrations, flight testing, airworthiness, operation, maintenance, disposal, etc.
Lead architectural development efforts including trade studies, system-to-subsystem functional and logical allocation and decomposition, and definition of system capabilities, functions, features, and services necessary to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
Develop enduring and trusted Customer relationships through excellent communications, technical insight and successful program executions.
Collaborate with customers and business development to create roadmaps depicting customer mission needs and use cases, and relevant avionics systems solution opportunities.
Assist with the identification for strategic business investment and capture opportunities (e.g., IRAD, capital, CRAD).
Use metrics to improve product and execution quality, performance and effectiveness.

Basic Qualifications:

BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering or related STEM discipline with a minimum of 14 years of relevant experience; Master's with 12 years of relevant experience, or PhD with 8 years relevant experience.
Well versed in the Systems Engineering discipline including the capture of customer needs, development and presentation of concepts of operations (CONOPS), architectural views using Department of Defense Architectural Framework (DODAF), Unified Architectural Framework (UAF) or Ministry of Defense Architectural Framework (MODAF), conducting briefings, trade studies, research and business proposals, progress reports, test reports, etc.
Proven leadership skills related to planning, estimating, organizing and managing technical teams and activities across multiple engineering disciplines and communities.
Intelligent and effective verbal and written communication skills to be able to effectively interact with executive leadership within Northrop Grumman and the Customer community.
Breadth of experience in the integration of systems which may include Flight management, Command and control, Weapons, Navigation, Communications, Vehicle management, Electronic or algorithmic warfare, Airborne sensors, etc. and Safety and Cyber measures with a of Integrated Avionics Systems technical
experience across multiple platforms encompassing the entire product development lifecycle.
Knowledgeable of the airworthiness certification process for commercial or military aircraft.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally averaging 25%.
Must possess a current active Secret Clearance or above.

Preferred Qualifications:

Successful Chief or Lead engineer on one or more fixed and rotary wing military aircraft programs.
USMC or US Army or allied military experience supporting missions involving helicopter engineering, deployments and tactics.
Product cyber experience applying both in Anti-Tamper (AT) and Information Assurance (IA).
Product system safety and airworthiness experience applying MIL-STD-882, DEF-STD-55/56, DO-178, DO-254, etc.
Hands-on experience using Agile, Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), SysML and related System Modeling tools such as Cameo Enterprise Architect, PTC, Rhapsody, etc.
