Systems Engineer 4 - Radar Cross Section/Survivability/Low Observable

Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems is seeking a Radar Cross Section / Survivability / Low Observable Engineer 4 to join our team. This advanced technology team functions within the Systems Engineering Directorate at the Space Park Center of Excellence.

The Radar Cross Section / Survivability /Low Observable Engineer will lead Radar Cross Section (RCS) predictions and measurement verification tests of developmental and production systems. The Low Observable (LO) Engineer is expected to lead development of an RCS system surrogate test model, perform RCS predictions and perform RCS indoor/outdoor measurement tests. Deliverables will include test documentation, data analysis, anomaly resolution, results documentation, and presentation of results to both internal and external customers. Candidate will work in integrated product teams to incorporate advanced signature control technologies into deliverable products and aid in assessment of system performance. Note that occasional non-standard work shifts, secondary to weather, may be expected during testing.

In addition, this candidate will help shape the Test & Measurement, Aircraft Sustainment development strategy for new technologies, systems engineering, computational analysis techniques, and manufacturing techniques for design elements of airframes and similar systems. As a senior engineer, it is expected that the candidate work across Product Lines and Business Units as critical needs dictate of the Enterprise. Additionally, this role will seek out and establish mentorships to enable a knowledge sharing environment. In this position, they must have exhibited a proven track record with expertise in signature management and RCS measurement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The selected individual will document all activities pertaining to test preparation, data analysis, design trades, prediction results, and others
  • The LO Engineer, will work within integrated product teams and support all aspects of that team's design efforts with some direction from the IPT Manager
  • The LO Engineer will present results of testing, analysis, and design efforts to internal and external customers
  • The LO Engineer will be responsible for mentoring, training, and developing signature management talent in house
  • Occasional travel for business, training, and conferences as required

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline from an ABET accredited university with a minimum of 9 years of engineering experience (7 years with a MS, 4 years with a PhD).
Experience being involved with an RCS Test Pole Model Fixture Build with Suppliers
Previous Low Observable (LO) technology experience
Prior work experience performing RCS measurement/testing, prediction, and design
Academic or applied experience utilizing RF testing techniques, terminology, and test equipment
Current Department of Defense (DoD) Secret or Top Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced Degree: EE, Physics, Math or other Engineering discipline
Experience leading an RCS Test Pole Model Fixture Build with Suppliers
Demonstrated expertise in the use of full wave computational electromagnetic codes and full wave codes, as well as asymptotic techniques using industry standard tools such as XPATCH ProE, ACAD, Patran, CARLOS, SENTRi, or PioneerRCS
Multiple tests of LO targets on ground plane ranges and compact ranges
Absorber material treatments / design and testing experience (coatings, paint, MAGRAM)
Understanding of electromagnetic fundamentals
Experience with Infrared signature analysis and control
Programming expertise in C++, MATLAB, or other technical language is desirable
