Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Lead System Engineer in Rome, NY. The System Engineer will conduct systems/software analysis, system design and system development activities relative to the Data to Decision Campaign and Department of Defense (DoD)/U.S. Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) collection, processing, exploitation, analysis and dissemination capabilities.

This is a research environment where you'll be looking at ways to provide warfighters data in the fastest and most efficient ways possible, which will help with their decision making in a wartime environment. Warfare is conducted on many fronts; our research looks at ways to combine air, cyber and space operations to help fight future wars. We conduct experiments to integrate these fronts in order to put an architecture in place for a combat cloud.

Roles & Responsibilities include:

  • Work as part of a team to design, develop, implement, and transition capabilities required by the client to meet their operational requirements.
  • Perform system engineering and integration within an agile development process.
  • System analysis activities to include requirements analysis, gap analysis, and analysis of alternatives.
  • Development of high-level and detailed system design artifacts in accordance with DoD architecture framework.
  • Development of new research area recommendations to introduce solutions, products, services and best practices to fit customer needs.

Travel 5%-10% may be required.

This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

This requisition may be filled at either a level 3 or level 4 based on the qualifications below.

Basic Qualifications for a Level 3:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science or related STEM degree plus 5 years of related experience; or a Master of Science degree in Computer Science or related STEM degree plus 3 years of related experience.
  • Ability to decompose and allocate system requirements into discrete system components and capabilities
  • Ability to assist in definition of experimentation/capability evaluation plan
  • Ability to conduct technical assessments
  • Ability to work on small multi-disciplinary engineering teams
  • Current, active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI

Basic Qualifications for a level 4:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in in Computer Science or related STEM degree plus 9 years of related experience; or a Master of Science degree in Computer Science or related STEM degree plus 7 years of related experience.
  • Ability to decompose and allocate system requirements into discrete system components and capabilities
  • Assist in definition of experimentation/capability evaluation plan
  • Conduct technical assessments
  • Ability to work on small multi-disciplinary engineering teams
  • Current, active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to conduct Analysis of Alternatives (AoA) of architectures and technologies
  • Knowledge or experience in Services Oriented Architectures
  • Air Force DCGS experience
  • Experience with the processes and procedures for managing ISR data
  • Enterprise services and integration with enterprise service buses
  • Enterprise computing/cloud computing architectures (public and/or private)
  • Virtual machines/secure virtualization techniques
  • Big data architectures and analytic techniques
  • Security engineering and C&A of DoD systems in accordance with DIACAP/DoD 8500
  • System functional and/or security testing
