The Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems Specialty Systems Engineering Department is seeking an exceptionally qualified and proven Human Factors Engineer to join our Human Systems Integration (HSI) Engineering team.

Role and Responsibilities:

The candidate will be expected to support tasks involving many of the domains of HSI, including Safety, Habitability, and Survivability, across IPTs for a geographically dispersed team. The individual will develop contract deliverables, perform human engineering testing, and analyze systems for design impact to operators, maintainers, and other users. This position is located in Redondo Beach/El Segundo, Ca.

Specific responsibilities include the following:

  • Support definition of HSI requirements, architecture, design, development, and evaluation, for embedded and large-scale, distributed DoD space, avionics, computer, and communications systems.
  • Applying human performance principles, methodologies, and technologies to the design of human-machine systems and products.
  • Developing and implementing research methodologies and statistical analysis plans to test and evaluate developmental prototypes to be used in new products and processes, such as cockpit designs, user workstations, and computerized human models.
  • Interfacing with design engineers to establish system design, operating, and training requirements and to ensure optimized human-machine interfaces.
  • Identifying and analyzing technological problems or risks; performing theoretical human factors investigations; and developing and implementing research and analysis plans.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and a team player. Strong writing and oral presentation skills; ability to write final-version deliverable technical documents and reports.
  • Work on multiple simultaneous tasks.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline from an ABET accredited university, and 5+ years of Human Factors or Systems Engineering experience in an Aerospace environment ,OR
  • Masters degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline from an ABET accredited university, and 3+ years of Human Factors or Systems Engineering experience in an Aerospace environment, OR
  • Ph.D. in Human Factors or Psychology
  • Active DoD Top Secret and/or SCI, in scope

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Thorough understanding of MIL-STD-1472, with experience in requirements decomposition, derivation, and allocation
  • Experience applying human performance principles, methodologies, and technologies to the design of human-machine systems and products
  • Experience developing and implementing research methodologies and statistical analysis plans to test and evaluate developmental prototypes
  • Experience in performing task analysis and workload analysis
  • Experience in developing Human Factors documentation, such as HEDADs, HESARs,HETPs, HETRs, etc.
  • Strong systems engineering experience in military systems
  • Masters degree in Human Factors or Psychology
