Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) was selected by the U.S. Missile Defense Agency to participate on the Missile Defense National Team. This team was chartered to develop a Ballistic Missile Defense System for the United

States. Air & Missile Defense Systems (A&MDS) serves as Northrop Grumman Mission Systems' focal point for all activities associated with missile defense, including Command, Control, Battle Management and Communications (C2BMC), simulation & modeling, systems engineering, and target discrimination.

Individual will perform analysis of the Missile Defense Agency's (MDA) Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) and capabilities of potential threats to develop concepts supporting definition of advanced technologies for missile defense and future architectures providing capabilities to defeat ballistic and non-ballistic missiles.

This individual will work closely with MDA technical offices and supporting organizations to define future threat spaces and develop concepts, schemas and architectures to counter potential adversaries.

The individual will document analysis results in trade studies, reports, and briefings to be presented to senior members of the National Team and senior MDA decision makers.

Individual will work in small teams comprised of 4-8 multi-discipline engineers.

Basic Requirements:

Individual must be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of one or more of BMDS or similar focus areas: EO/IR sensors, RF/Radar sensors, endo and exo atmospheric kill vehicles, hyper-sonic technologies, ballistic and non-ballistic missiles/interceptors, threats & countermeasures, raid threats, target discrimination, or command and control (e.g., C3I, C4I, etc.).

Individual must demonstrate knowledge of the kill chain to defeat threats in all phases of employment (pre-launch, boost, mid-course, and terminal).

Individual must possess outstanding verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated experience in presenting technical information in high-level reviews such as Customer witnessed design reviews, competitive proposal oral presentations, etc.

Capable of working both independently and within a small team environment.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience in performing system-of-system level requirements development in a model based system engineering (MBSE).
  • Experience in routine and direct interacting with MDA Customers (2 or 3 "Letter" organizations or "Elements").
  • Past involvement in corporate or government IR&D initiatives. Desire to think-out-of-the-box.

Degree and experience in an engineering classification, mathematics or physics: Bachelor's, Master's or PhD.
