Northrop Grumman Corporation is seeking a Linux System Administrator to be responsible for datacenter server operations and maintenance support within a highly dynamic and customer driven program located in Austin, Texas. The System Administrator will work independently and as part of a team supporting a mission critical State of Texas application.

Roles and Responsibilities:
The candidate will provide support to maintain servers running enterprise applications and should have experience using industry standard processes and procedures to achieve maximum uptime for servers and applications running in the datacenters we support.

  • Responsible to configure, monitor and maintain servers to support applications and application programmers in a large State of Texas owned datacenter
  • Follow ITIL processes and change management procedures for datacenter management.
  • Assist in providing 24x7 support for over 4000 physical and virtual servers.
  • Participate in designing, planning, building and deployment of new servers.

Basic Qualifications: To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems Management, or closely related discipline with a minimum of 3 years of experience or a minimum of 7 years of experience to satisfy degree and experience requirements.
  • 3 years of experience supporting Linux servers in a large datacenter.
  • 3 years or more of virtualization experience using VMware.
  • 3 years of experience using scripting languages (i.e. python, perl, bash, etc.) to automate system administration activities
  • 3 years of experience troubleshooting performance issue on Linux and/or Solaris servers.
  • Working knowledge of advanced Linux features including: clustering, LDAP, DNS and NFS
  • Working knowledge of build tools such as Red Hat Satellite and Kickstart as well as package management utilities (yum, rpm, etc.).
  • Extensive hardware and software configuration and troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with Linux filesystem types and logical volume management.
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Chef or Puppet.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritizes competing demands, and remains flexible in fast-paced and intense situations.
  • Strong problem solving skills along with outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to be part of a 24x7 on-call rotation.

    Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
    • Linux certification.
    • Experience supporting Solaris servers.
    • Experience supporting Windows servers and Active Directory
    • Experience/certification with AWS
    • Experience with EMC SAN storage and Hitachi NAS storage
    • Experience with Veritas Netbackup software
