System Survivability - Engineer Systems 4

At Northrop Grumman we develop cutting-edge technology that preserves freedom and advances human discovery. Our pioneering and inventive spirit has enabled us to be at the forefront of many technology advancements in our nation's history - from the first flight across the Atlantic Ocean, to stealth bombers, to landing on the moon. We continue to innovate with developments from launching the first commercial flight to space, to discovering the early beginnings of the universe. Our engineers are not only part of history, they're making history.

The Survivability Directorate within the Aerospace Systems Engineering and Global Product Development (E&GPD) organization is seeking Survivability Design, Analysis, & Integration - Engineer Systems 3 to be located in San Diego, California.

The qualified applicant will support a diverse design and integration team on an Advanced Program within NGAS. As part of your assignment, you will work as part of an integrated product team (IPT), supporting multi-disciplinary advanced development programs and technology research and development (R&D) to determine how survivability technologies can best be integrated into air-based systems within the NGAS portfolio.

This role is focused primarily in system survivability product design, analysis, and concept integration; radar cross section (RCS), and electromagnetic design, and analysis.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Implementing predictive analysis codes to support the development and integration of advanced technology to reduce the detectability of aircraft in the electromagnetic spectrum
  • Working closely with engineers of other disciplines and mentor junior engineers to optimize the integration of that advanced technology on existing and future aircraft.
  • Running a variety of CEM simulation tools and utilizing 1D, 2D, and 3D computational electromagnetic codes such as method of moments (MoM) and physical optics (PO) to perform component and vehicle level design and analysis and ensure system survivability
  • Overseeing RCS testing and perform RCS data post processing and analysis of test results.

An emerging generation of advanced design and special programs are offering dramatic challenges to low observables / signature management / survivability engineers. These are unique opportunities to join the world leader in the development of Long Range Strike capabilities, our country's next generation stealth fighter, and Reconnaissance and Surveillance aircraft. Some programs are so advanced; their impact tomorrow keeps them hidden today.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) field of study from an accredited university
  • Minimum 9 years proven experience (7 years with a Masters' degree in STEM discipline; 4 year with a PhD in STEM discipline) in one or more of the following:
  • Applied Electromagnetics and/or Aircraft Survivability; or
  • Electrical Engineering and/or Physics degree with comprehensive understanding of Electromagnetic Energy transmission though space and within materials
  • Active DoD Secret clearance (required to start) and the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Programs (SAP) level access/clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS degree in electrical engineering or coursework in applied electro-physics
  • Experience in computational electromagnetics (CEM), signature integration, and/or RCS design, integration, and analysis
  • Demonstrated understanding and usage of 1D, 2D, and 3D computational electromagnetic codes to perform component and vehicle level design and analysis and ensure system survivability
  • Experienced in one or more CAD software solutions such as CATIA, Unigraphics, NX
  • Ability to use CAE and/or FEA meshing tools (i.e. FMS, Patran, Cubit, etc.)
  • Proven experience with 3D Method of Moments (MoM) such as SENTRi and 3D Physical Optics (PO) codes such as Ansys HFSS and Xpatch
  • Programming experience in Python, C/C , Matlab
  • Strong knowledge and ability with RCS data processing tools, such as Knowbell or Pioneer
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Active DoD Top Secret / SCI clearance
