Northrop Grumman is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer. This position will be with our Space Systems sector located in Ogden / Hill AFB Utah. Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force's sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities and associated infrastructure.

The Ground Subsystem Support Contract (GSSC) is seeking a lead mechanical design engineer for Task order support. Access control is an essential subsystem of the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Minuteman III weapon system. Due to current failures and issues with the Fast Rising B-Plug (FRBP) System the Air Force is pursuing a program to update the system with a Service Life Extension Program (SLEP). The program is seeking an experienced mechanical engineer for our lead design engineer position. This program will be re-designing and improving critical components of the access control system. The main goal of the design effort is to improve reliability, maintainability, and supportability of several components. The lead engineer will oversee all elements of design and assist with design teams meeting all design reviews and data development during the EMD Program.

The successful applicant will:

• Apply the principles of engineering to design components and systems using applicable standards and specifications

• Participate in technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for mechanical, electrical and integrated systems

• Perform requirements analysis, develop source data for requirements, generate test requirements and prepare test reports

• Verify specifications and designs through modeling and simulation, test data processing, and performance analysis

• Support all phases of the systems lifecycle including concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 14 years of related experience with a Bachelors in Science; 12 Years with a Masters; 9 Years with a PhD
  • Demonstrated experience with Engineering and Manufacturing Design (EMD)
  • Demonstrated experience using the following tools: NX or other CAD software, ANSYS, MATLAB, Microsoft Office, or equivalents
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active Secret Clearance or higher
  • Prior experience with the FRBP and Access Control subsystems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced dynamic environment as part of a multi-discipline team
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to interface with an organization at all levels
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Strong attention to detail
