Northrop Grumman Tactical Space Systems (TSS) is seeking highly qualified Principal/Sr. Principal Electrical Failure Analysis Engineers to work in our Reliability Analysis Laboratory (RAL). The RAL is a Tactical Space Systems Division center of excellence for the performance of failure analysis investigations to determine the root cause of failures of our flight system components.

In this role, you will perform investigations of electrical, electronic, and electromechanical (EEE) part failures to determine the root cause, generate reports summarizing the investigation performed and the conclusion, and support Failure Review Boards. Investigations include screening of parts, characterization of components, and destructive physical analysis using SEM, EDS, X-ray, FTIR, curve tracers, electrical testing, FIB, device de-processing, reverse engineering, etc. This position requires critical, independent thought as well as the ability to balance multiple competing priorities on a daily basis.

Qualifications:

This role can be filled at either the Principal or Senior Principal level.

Basic Qualifications:
Principal Engineer:

  • Bachelors in a STEM field (Strong preference for Electrical Engineering or Physics with a specialization in Electronics Fundamentals) and 5 years of experience (or Masters with 3 years or PhD)
  • 3 years of experience in a similar technical laboratory executing the investigative process
  • Experience in Failure Analysis
  • Must have U.S. Citizenship
Sr. Principal Engineer
  • Bachelors in a STEM field (Strong preference for Electrical Engineering or Physics with a specialization in Electronics Fundamentals) and 9 years of experience (or Masters with 7 years or PhD with 4 years)
  • 3 years of experience in a similar technical laboratory executing the investigative process
  • Experience in Failure Analysis
  • Must have U.S. Citizenship
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Excellent communication, verbal and written skills.
  • MS in an engineering field with a strong preference for electrical engineering or physics with specialization in electronics. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Familiarity with the physics of failures and investigative tools such as: SEM, EDS, X-ray, FTIR, curve tracers, electrical testing, FIB, device de-processing, reverse engineering, etc.
  • Familiarity with military specifications, testing of EEE parts (screening and qualification) and mechanical parts.
  • Experience with spacecraft hardware and construction
