Sr. Principal Systems Engineer-Modeling & Simulation
Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Modeling and Simulation Software Engineer to join our team in Huntsville, AL. This position reports to the Modeling & Simulation Lead for Ground Based Mid-Course Defense (GMD) Program.
The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's Ground Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Development and Sustainment Contract (DSC), Modeling and Simulation team in support of the Missile Defense Agency. The GMD element, composed of the Ground Systems (GS) and Ground Based Interceptor (GBI) components, is a critical part of our nation's layered Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) providing the U.S. with the capability to engage and intercept long range ballistic missiles during midcourse flight.
The Modeling and Simulation team has responsibility to develop and integrate wrapped-tactical code GS models into the necessary BMDS architecture that reflect the tactical system capabilities of the GS components including GMD Fire Control (GFC), Launch Management System (LMS) equipment, and In-Flight Interceptor Communications System (IFICS) Data Terminal (IDT).
As a team member, the applicant will assist in developing new and updating existing GS system simulation models and algorithms, including implementation of tactical messaging, data logging as ASCII and SQL database outputs, and validation testing of tactical-like performance. Software development, unit testing, framework integration, validation testing, and automation scripting are performed in a closed environment.
Assist with performance behavior of operational vs. model analysis and mission effectiveness analysis.
Participate in an AGILE software development workflow to support non-real-time simulation of operational behavior of the GMD GS systems including daily Scrums, task updates, and code peer reviews.
Assist in suggesting and possibly implementing new technical tools and architectural design ideas.
Assist in developing improvements for testing methodologies, support code peer reviews, and writing of unit tests as well as participate in the development and documentation of M&S system architectures.
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
9+ years of related technical experience
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or other STEM field
Senior-level experience with the design, development, and testing (including unit testing) of C++ software in a Unix/Linux environment
Python, Perl, Unix shell, or other scripting experience
Experience with distributed programming
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Strong problem solving skills
Active DoD Secret security clearance
Must be able to travel up to 5%
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
Experience with the ADA programming language
Experience with Git or other software version control
HTML, CSS, and Java Script
SQL or other database experience
Data Architecture design, modeling, and implementation
Software interfaces, such as VMF and 1553 bus protocol
Experience with CDRL Documentation creation and delivery
