Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems Sector is seeking a Senior Principal Electromechanical Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within the Mechanisms & Deployable Products Department in Redondo Beach and El Segundo, CA.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Guide the successful completion of major programs in a technical leadership role
  • Possess technical responsibility for complex products comprised of multiple configured items
  • Represent the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects
  • Spearhead technical specifications, conceptual designs, trade studies, detail designs, procedures, reports
  • Interact with senior staff on significant technical matters requiring coordination between organizations
  • Collaborate with suppliers and external partners for technology and business development needs
  • Lead preliminary and critical design reviews for peer and customer presentations
  • Create and review technical data packages including fabrication, source control, and assembly drawings
  • Provide engineering management during prototype and production hardware assembly & test
  • Provide as needed engineering leadership to material review boards and failure review boards
  • Contribute significantly to process improvements and knowledge sharing within the organization
  • Work with agility and minimal direction to complete concurrent program tasks on schedule
  • Employ strong interpersonal and communication skills while leading an integrated product team
  • Failure to obtain results or erroneous decisions would typically result in failure to achieve major organizational objectives


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) from an ABET accredited university with 9 years of professional engineering experience; OR Masters degree in STEM from an ABET accredited university with 7 years of professional engineering experience; OR PhD Bachelors degree STEM from an ABET accredited university with 4 years of professional engineering experience
  • 7+ years of consistent use in Creo, Solidworks, NX, or CATIA V5 industry CAD software
  • 4+ years of experience leading electromechanical or opto-mechanical or mechanisms design
  • Proficiency with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T) applications per ASME Y.14-5
  • Candidate must be able to maintain an active U.S. Government security clearance at the Secret level with a background investigation date within 10 years

Preferred Requirements:
  • M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • Active U.S. Government security clearance at the Top Secret level with a background investigation date within 6 years, OR an active U.S. Government SCI access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within the last 5 years
  • Experience with successful design, development, analysis, and verification of opto-mechanical or mechanized or electro-mechanical subsystems
  • Experience with thermal and structural analysis
  • Demonstrated application of hardware systems engineering associated with the integration of subsystems into complex Aircraft and/or Spacecraft systems
  • Experience with spearheading of process improvements and standardized tools
  • Experience with ENOVIA/SMARTEAM/TEAMCENTER Product Lifecycle Management
