We are seeking a Senior Simulation Software Engineering team member to serve as a Cost Account Manager (CAM) and technical lead for one or more space programs in Dulles VA, in the NSS business area within the Space Systems Sector.

A successful candidate is familiar with software-based simulation principles, implementation, and application. Candidates will plan, organize and be involved in the full software lifecycle to develop spacecraft simulation software using state-of-the-art tools and software best practices. A successful candidate has the skill set, or willingness to learn the skills necessary, to perform cost account duties for the simulation software engineering staff associated with critical national security programs. Tracking the status of earned value performance and presentation of technical and programmatic status to management and external customers will be key job activities. The ideal candidate will have experience with C++ programming, be knowledgeable on the development and use of simulation models of sensors, actuators and space environments to demonstrate closed-loop spacecraft system performance and general integration and test of aerospace systems. An understanding of waterfall, spiral and Agile software development processes and continuous integration using Jenkins, Jira, Bitbucket and related devops tools is valuable.

Here are some of the representative tasks a Simulation CAM would perform:

• Manage cost, schedule and scope of simulation efforts

o Coordinate simulator deliveries

o Coordinate customer deliverables

o Coordinate Flatsat hardware deliverables

• Manage technical development of simulation

o Assign development tasks

o Perform development tasks

o Review simulation documentation

o Coordinate support from senior Simulation Team members

• Coordinate with related teams

o Support Flatsat hardware development, testing and lab management

o Work with Flight Software and Guidance, Navigation and Control teams

o Support Ground System and Mission Operations leads

• Interact with project Program Office

o Provide weekly status

o Provide monthly Earned Value

o Write Variance reports as required

o Perform Risk Analysis

o Attend regular CAM meetings

o Support ERBs, PRBs, CCBs, CDRs, IBRs, monthly PMRs

• Interface with customer

o Provide status on cloud requirements and development progress

o Support cloud testing as necessary

o Conduct simulator acceptance testing

o Support integration and testing of spacecraft

o Conduct customer training

o Support mission rehearsals

o Support on-orbit maintenance activities

o Support launch and on-orbit checkout and verification


Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Software/Electrical/Computer/Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or similar technical program with at least 9 years of related work experience.
  • Experience building models and simulations
  • Diverse programming proficiency: C, C++, Python, Matlab/Simulink
  • An active Top Secret Clearance is required for this position
  • US Citizenship is required for this position

Preferred Qualifications:
  • MS degree in engineering or science
  • Project management credentials
  • 3D graphics development, using OpenSceneGraph, OpenGL or similar
  • System knowledge in some of the following domains: Spacecraft Command & Control, Mission Planning, Space
  • Experience in Agile development methodology, specifically Scrum, using Jira
  • Active TS with SCI clearance
