Semiconductor Engineer (level 3/4) - PVD Process / Equipment Engineer

The Advanced Concepts and Technologies (AC&T) group of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an exceptionally talented, motivated, and creative PVD Process/Equipment Engineer for our Advanced Technology Lab (ATL) - located outside of Baltimore, Maryland - where we design, manufacture, and test semiconductor products for internal and commercial production customers as well as emerging technology programs.

Our multidisciplinary foundry team enables activities from development to sustainment process engineering. ATL is responsible for all aspects of semiconductor technology including design, mask making, wafer fabrication, test, and assembly. The candidate must be a strong team participant, have excellent communication skills, and be resourceful and multitalented. A strong understanding of semiconductor technology and PVD process and equipment engineering is essential. 

The PVD Process/Equipment Engineer must possess knowledge of evaporation and / or sputtering techniques, practices and equipment.

The PVD Engineer will be responsible for: 
1.all aspects of sustaining PVD processes and equipment including process qualifications, technician training and certification, writing and maintaining process documentation, process safety, continuous improvement, and SPC 
2.engaging with the maintenance and facilities team to minimize production equipment downtime 
3.new equipment installation and qualification 
4.interfacing with other unit process engineers and product integration engineers to develop processes and qualify equipment to support new products 
5.interfacing with equipment vendors and material suppliers 
6.training and mentoring junior engineers

This job may be filled as a level 3 or a level 4 based on the qualifications below.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications for a level 3: 

  • BS in Electrical, Chemical, Materials or Mechanical Engineering or other relevant technical discipline and a minimum of 5 years of experience working in a Semiconductor Fab (3 years with a technical MS and 0 with a PhD) 
  • Must possess an in depth knowledge of evaporation and/or sputtering techniques and practices 
  • Hands-on experience with evaporators and/or sputtering equipment from manufacturers such as CHA Industries, INNOTEC, Materials Research Corp., PERKIN-ELMER, 4WAVE INC, Canon ANELVA, Applied Materials, Inc. (AMAT), AJA International 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance 

Basic Qualifications for a level 4: 

  • BS in Electrical, Chemical, Materials, or Mechanical Engineering or other relevant technical discipline and a minimum of 9 years of experience working in a Semiconductor Fab (7 years with a technical MS and 4 with a PhD) 
  • Must possess an in depth knowledge of evaporation and/or sputtering techniques and practices 
  • Hands-on experience with evaporators and/or sputtering equipment from manufacturers such as CHA Industries, INNOTEC, Materials Research Corp., PERKIN-ELMER, 4WAVE INC, Canon ANELVA, Applied Materials, Inc. (AMAT), AJA International 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience developing technical specifications for equipment procurement 
  • Experience developing technical specifications for process material procurement 
  • Experience in lean manufacturing practices and structured problem-solving methodology 
  • Experience leading and guiding the maintenance and facilities teams 
  • Active Secret clearance
