Safety Systems Engineer

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector is seeking a Systems Safety Engineer 2 or 3 to join our team in Huntsville, AL. The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's System Safety Engineering Team. The position is responsible for the following:

Responsible for reviewing, establishing, and implementing safety requirements associated with support equipment, facilities, operations, and products.
Development, implementation and maintenance of a System Safety Program.
Identification and evaluation of system safety and health hazards, definition of risk levels, and management of the probability and severity of all hazards associated with installation/integration, use, and disposal of hardware.
Develop and maintain all necessary documentation necessary to implement and maintain a System Safety Program.

Job Responsibilities:
Independently develop Safety documents, such as System Safety Program Safety Assessments Reports (SAR); perform audits; and report the effectiveness of the system safety program.
Work closely with the Huntsville Health and Safety Sector manager to ensure all requirements align with Northrop Grumman corporate policies.
Metric reports will be provided as necessary.
Participate in accident investigations involving damage to products or related facilities, and harm to personnel.
Responsible for assisting in the identification of the causes and the corrective actions necessary to prevent reoccurrence.
Develop System Safety Program Safety Assessments Reports (SAR5) as required.
Possess the skills to develop implement and maintain a Hazardous Material Management Program.

Basic Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, the candidate must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below. This requisition may be filled at either a level 2 or 3.

BQs for a System Safety Engineer 2: Requires 2 years of technical experience in system safety or related field with Bachelors in Science in Science, Technology, Math or Engineering discipline; or 0 years with Masters

BQs for a Systems Safety Engineer 3: Requires5 Years of technical experience in system safety or related field with with Bachelors in Science; or 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD

Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret clearance
Demonstrated experience in one or more systems safety engineering job function as described above.
Ability to develop analysis products in support of the Safety Assessment Report (SAR) including a Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA).
Ability to analyze requirements at all levels within the system to identify or create safety critical requirements, and assign appropriate criticality index and level of rigor to SW requirements.
Ability to generate MIL-STD-882 type analyses
Experience documenting hazard analysis and test results in a Hazard Tracking System
Experience developing test cases to satisfy safety requirements

Preferred Qualifications:
Missile Defense experience
Experience reviewing code for application of safety best coding practices
Experience performing functions such as installing, repairing, inspecting, overhauling, adjusting, aligning, rigging, and calibrating military structures, systems, and components preferred.
Experience with the following: Mil-Std 882 System Safety; Mil-Std 1432 Human Factors; Mil Hdbk 454 General Guideline for Electronic Equipment; OSHA Health Standard; MIL STD 1808; AMCOM Policy 385-17.
Experience using model-based approaches and tools with experience in UML and DoDAF.
