RF IC Design Engineer 3/4

Did you know that Northrop Grumman's Advanced Technology Lab is developing a new family of superconducting digital logic known as Reciprocal Quantum Logic (RQL)? On a gate for gate basis, RQL consumes five orders of magnitude less power than CMOS while running at significantly higher clock speeds. Having demonstrated its performance with basic circuits, we are now developing processors, memories, and larger systems.

We are seeking anRF IC Design Engineerwho will be responsible for the design and layout of superconducting integrated circuits to support the development of Northrop Grumman's patented RQL circuit family. The candidate will build upon their previous RF or microwave circuit design experience and apply these skills to superconducting circuit design.

Tasks will include schematic capture, circuit simulation, circuit layout, electro-magnetic simulation, physical verification (DRC and LVS), and device test and characterization. The right candidate will be comfortable in a dynamic environment with rapidly developing technologies and tools. Verilog-A or Verilog-AMS and electronics test lab experience are a plus.

This job may be filled at a level 3 or a level 4 based on the qualifications below.

Basic Qualifications for a level 3:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical area with 5 years of experience in RF/Microwave, MMIC, or RFIC design (3 years with technical MS or 0 years with a PhD)
  • Experience with some of the following: IC custom design tools (e.g. Cadence or Mentor) for schematic capture, circuit simulation, and full custom layout; RF mixed signal circuit design experience (Digital and Analog); physical verification skills utilizing Cadence Assura or Mentor Calibre.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance per business requirements. US Citizenship is a requirement of this.

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical area with 9 years of experience in RF/Microwave, MMIC, or RFIC design (7 years with technical MS or 4 years with a PhD)
  • Experience with some of the following: IC custom design tools (e.g. Cadence or Mentor) for schematic capture, circuit simulation, and full custom layout; RF mixed signal circuit design experience (Digital and Analog); physical verification skills utilizing Cadence Assura or Mentor Calibre.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance per business requirements. US Citizenship is a requirement of this.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced Degree either MS or PhD
  • Current Secret clearance
  • Proficiency with ADS suite of tools including Momentum, HFSS, Cadence Spectre and Virtuoso, and AWR Microwave Office
  • Strong design automation skills
  • Experience with analog behavioral modeling
  • Electronics test lab experience
  • Experience with low-temperature experimental measurements, microwave engineering
