Quality Engineer 4 (Auditor)- San Diego, CA

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Quality Engineer 4 (Auditor) to join located in San Diego, CA. There is 10% travel.

This individual will report to the Quality Management System (QMS) Manager in the Communications Business Unit (BU) of the Airborne C4ISR Division.

The Auditor position will perform internal audits across functional organizations and Operating Unit (OU) programs in accordance with industry wide standards. The Auditor position will support internal Northrop Grumman Corporate audits and external audits in preparation for site certifications. In addition, the Auditor position will include support program audits conducted by Northrop Grumman external customers to assess AS9100 and ISO 9001 compliance. Qualified candidates will have demonstrated successful leadership skills to implement an integrated audit program. This position will involve audit execution across the Communications BU.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Work as an audit lead with little supervision

Assist the QMS Manager in formulating audit program objectives and scope of work

Assist in design, development and implementation of manual and automated audit methods and techniques to improve auditor productivity

Assist in audit oversight, planning and training, including providing technical support and advice to other less experienced auditors

Detect and characterize systemic issues across audits; identify root cause and provide recommendations for corrective and preventative actions

Develop and present audit results and metrics to OU Mission Assurance, programs and management teams

Provide timely feedback on audit program execution progress to audit team members. Take corrective action to assure timely and accurate internal audit execution.

Organize work to deliver high quality results on time

Assist Internal Audit management with periodic internal status reporting, development of the annual rolling internal audit plan, and promotion of internal control and corporate governance concepts throughout the BU

Strong people leadership and collaboration skills to work with OU programs and functional organizations.

Collaborate with the BU QMS manager and other sector/division resources to foster adoption of best practices and lessons learned.


Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a STEM or related technical discipline plus 9 years of related experience; or a Master's degree and 7 years of experience; or a PhD with 5 years of related experience.

Through understanding of the AS9100 and ISO 9001 standards for Quality Management Systems.

Ability to plan, perform, and report on audits utilizing a risk-based approach.

Ability to assess process compliance quickly and effectively during an audit.

Demonstrated leadership in planning resources and making audit assignments to team members and ensuring audit objectives are met.

Working knowledge of root cause analysis tools and techniques leading to effective corrective and preventive action implementation

Exhibit the leadership skills needed to persuade management at all levels to accept constructive change

Possess current DoD Secret Clearance.

Ability to travel approximately 10% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications:

Aerospace and Defense Industry accepted auditor certifications

Understanding of ERP systems, distributed system controls, general computing controls, and policy and procedure reviews

Understanding of auditing methodologies and risk assessment practices

Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt Certification

Ability to effectively communicate in both oral and written forms

Knowledge of analytical tools in order to analyze, interpret and organize a wide variety of data, information, and ideas to identify trends and form objective conclusions
