Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems Division located in Redondo Beach, CA has an opening for a Principle / Sr. Principle Structural Analysis Engineer.

The candidate will support Space Programs/Technologies and solve complex structural analysis problems for multiple platforms and missions involving composite and metallic structures. The candidate will be responsible for performing structural analyses using classical methods, commercial tools and in-house codes to solve a variety of structural and multi-disciplinary technical problems.

Collaborating with design engineers to insure structural integrity, you will perform both classical finite element analysis of primary and secondary structures (Metallic and Composite Material systems) and bolted and bonded joints. Additionally, you will be required to coordinate with other engineering disciplines for analysis inputs and design implementation details, document stress analyses and report results to internal and external customers when necessary.

Other Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting drawing release schedule and sign-off
  • Presenting results at Preliminary Design Review/Customer Design Review meetings
  • Internal Design Reviews
  • Supporting Proposals
  • Documenting analysis results
  • Leading a small work package
  • Interfacing with customer
  • Technical support
  • Mentoring junior engineers
  • Meeting schedule commitments.


Qualifications:

This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

Basic Qualifications for Principle Structural Analysis Engineer:
  • Bachelors of Science with 5 years of experience, Masters of Science with 3 years of experience, and/or Ph.D. with 0 years of experience in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Structural Engineering, and/or Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Basic level of experience with stiffness analysis, strength analysis, stability analysis, thermal distortion analysis, composite materials analysis, fracture mechanics analysis, and FEA.
  • Understanding of stress analysis techniques, concepts and practices.
  • Exposure to industry standard structural analysis software (NASTRAN (MSC & NX), PATRAN, FEMAP, MATHCAD, etc.)
  • Active DOD Top Secret with the ability to obtain and maintain an SCI Clearances.
Preferred Qualifications for Principle Structural Analysis Engineer:
  • Experience in structural test applications
  • Experience with CAD application (CATIA / NX)
  • Experience with advanced manufacturing processes (non-traditional composites, additive manufacturing, etc...)
  • Experience working on Special Access Programs.
  • Current SCI clearances.
Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principle Structural Analysis Engineer:
  • Bachelors of Science with 9 years of experience, Masters of Science with 7 years of experience, and/or Ph.D with 4 years of experience respectively in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Structural Engineering, and/or Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Expert level experience with stiffness analysis, strength analysis, stability analysis, thermal distortion analysis, composite materials analysis, fracture mechanics analysis, and FEA.
  • Expert level understanding of stress analysis techniques, concepts and practices.
  • Proficient in using industry standard structural analysis software (NASTRAN (MSC & NX), PATRAN, FEMAP, MATHCAD, etc.)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Top Secret and SCI Clearances.
Preferred Qualifications for Sr. Principle Structural Analysis Engineer:
  • Extensive experience in structural test applications
  • Experience with CAD application (CATIA / NX).
  • Expert level of experience with advanced manufacturing processes (non-traditional composites, additive manufacturing, etc...)
  • Experience working on Special Access Programs.
  • Current (in scope) DOD Secret, Top Secret and/or SCI clearances.
