The Systems Engineering department in the Northrop Grumman Undersea Systems business unit at Annapolis, Maryland, is seeking experienced Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) engineers looking to expand their horizons. As an MBSE engineer, you will support complex, dynamic maritime programs of strategic importance to our nation. You will work closely with system architects to improve our current MBSE capabilities and implement best practices to help us shape future opportunities in the undersea domain. You will contribute to the development of state-of-the-art undersea systems, which will provide you exposure to a wide range of advanced systems and technologies, including autonomous underwater vehicles, acoustic and non-acoustic sensors, sensor processing, navigation, communication technologies, and advanced algorithms.

These are some tasks that you could be performing on a day-to-day basis:

  • Assist in establishing framework for system modeling (including descriptive, behavior, and performance modeling) to support the design, development, and assessment of advanced system design concepts and technologies.
  • Create and evolve descriptive system models to include physical/functional block diagrams at various abstraction layers to support Model-Based Engineering (MBE) and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) efforts. SysML, UML or other descriptive constructs/tools may be used.
  • Champion the adoption of model-driven approaches and MBSE practices.
  • Advise internal and external stakeholders on the selection and use of common MBSE tools.
  • Work within multi-disciplined teams to architect, model, simulate, and analyze systems to predict/verify system performance against functional/capability requirements.
  • Prepare and brief technical packages to company leadership and customers.
  • Support project and program processes, reviews and technical planning activities.
  • Collaborate with various MBSE organizations to develop and evolve MBSE standards.
Though not required, it is desirable that candidates have experience with underwater/Navy systems such as sonar systems, sensors, torpedoes, towed vehicles, Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), acoustic communications, etc.
