Northrop Grumman Mission Systems has an opening for a Principal/ Senior Principal Optical Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Linthicum/ Baltimore, MD.

As a leading provider of state-of-the-art EO/IR sensor solutions for some of the most advanced systems in the U.S. arsenal, Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is a world leader in advanced sensor systems and design. These include EO/IR products for the F-16, C-130, A-10, and B-52 to name a few.

Roles & Responsibilities: Software System Engineers work with a team to support product development and Research & Development activities at our campus in Linthicum, MD. Based on detailed trade studies and requirements analysis, our engineers develop modern solutions to satisfy current system requirements as well as future challenges and perform functions involved in all aspects of design which can include:

  • Designing software system architectures deployable to varied computing and network topologies
  • Developing signal processing algorithms to extract and exploit features from multi-spectral sensor packages
  • Creating test frameworks and procedures that support system integration through the entire development lifecycle
  • Collaborating with a multi-disciplined engineering team to ensure maximum utility of system resources
  • Analyzing data collected during test phases to determine best options for improving system performance
  • Maintaining vision on current "state of the art" and understanding the best way to apply those concepts to EO/IR software systems

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications for a Principal EO/IR Software Systems Engineer:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Software, Electrical Engineering, or related STEM discipline with at least 5 years of related engineering experience, 3 years with a Masters Degree, 0 with a PhD.
  • 5 years of experience working with software using C++
  • Experience with networking protocols: TCP/IP, UDP, etc
  • Experience developing in a real-time embedded environment
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or higher
Basic Qualifications for a Principal EO/IR Software Systems Engineer:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Software, Electrical Engineering, or related STEM discipline with at least 9 years of related engineering experience, 7 years with a Masters Degree, 4 with a PhD.
  • 7 or more years of experience working with software using C++
  • Experience with networking protocols: TCP/IP, UDP, etc
  • Experience developing in a real-time embedded environment
  • Experience in one or more of the following: MATLAB, EO/IR. signal processing, software integration in hardware sensors
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or higher
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters Degree in Software or Electrical Engineering
  • 10 years or more of C++ software programming experience
  • Proficiency in MATLAB
  • Experience integrating software with hardware sensors
  • Interest in big picture systems-type knowledge (ie how components fit into the entire system, demonstrates intellectual curiosity, etc)
  • EO/IR domain experience
  • Experience working with large data sets
  • Experience in signal processing
  • Experience working with data in a 3D environment.
