Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal/Senior Principal Engineer Systems- Project Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Melbourne, Florida.
Project Engineer is to provide engineering leadership, analysis, and execution support for the development of innovative systems. Focus is on change and technical integration of complex issues as well as how our solutions affect our program costs and schedules.

Essential Functions:

- Complete understanding and wide application of Change integration and management principle, theories, and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines.
- Displays Technical and program review board leadership. Provides technical solutions to a wide range of complex difficult problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organization objectives.
- Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives. Supports chief engineers in defect analysis and path forwards
- Contributes to the completion of Change Proposal Development and Risk Management and Opportunity analysis.
- Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts. Represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications: This requisition may be filled at a Principal Systems Engineer or Senior Principal Systems Engineer.
Basic Qualification for a Principal Systems Engineer:

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) from an accredited university with 5 years engineering experience OR Master's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) from an accredited university with 3 years of experience
  • An active Secret DoD Clearance with an investigation in the past 5 years and the ability to obtain special program access prior to start.
  • Formal training or basic knowledge and experience in Program/Program Management including Baseline Management, Program Change, Change Integration, Risk and Opportunity Management, and Risk Management Analysis.
  • Overtime, odd shifts, and weekend work will occasionally be required.
Preferred Qualifications for a Principal Systems Engineer:
  • Master's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university field or similar field with 3 years' experience OR PhD with 0 years' experience.
  • Active, In-scope DoD Top Secret or SCI clearance.
  • 3+ years Program/Project management experience including Change Management, Risk and Opportunity Management, Change Proposal processes.
  • Advanced use and/or application of technical principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Demonstrates the skill and ability to perform complex professional tasks.
  • Develops recommended solutions to advanced technical problems as assigned.
  • Minimum 3 years proven experience in one or more of the following:
    • Aircraft Design
    • Aircraft Avionics & Electrical Systems
    • Aircraft Testing
  • Excellent communication, analysis and problem solving skills and Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Systems/Model Based Systems Engineering academic or work-related experience.
  • Strong understanding of common SE processes and procedures.
  • System Design behavior analysis academic or work-related experience.
  • Provide technical solutions to a wide range of complex difficult problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organization objectives.
  • Significant experience in the developmental/operational test maintenance environment.
  • Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts. Represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.
  • Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Project.
Basic Qualification for a Senior Principal Systems Engineer:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 9 years of engineering experience OR Master's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 7 years of engineering experience OR PhD Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 4 years of engineering experience.
  • An active Secret DoD Clearance with an investigation in the past 5 years and the ability to obtain special program access prior to start.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in Baseline Management, Program Change, Change Integration, Risk and Opportunity Management, and Risk Management Analysis
  • Overtime, odd shifts, and weekend work will occasionally be required.
Preferred Qualifications for a Senior Principal Systems Engineer :
  • Master's, or PhD Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university with years of experience.

  • Strong Model Based Systems Engineering academic or work-related experience.

  • Specialty engineering understanding in:
    • Aircraft Design
    • Aircraft Avionics & Electrical Systems
    • Aircraft Testing
  • Applies wide-ranging technical expertise, and has full knowledge of other related disciplines. Able to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings.
  • Demonstrates advanced skills and abilities to perform complex professional tasks.
  • Leads the development of recommended solutions to advanced technical problems.
  • Full life-cycle hardware/software development understanding.
  • Proficient in Earned Value Management System (EVMS) with hands-on EVMS experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse, multi-disciplinary team environment. Excellent leadership, communications, and interpersonal skills. Able to interface with all levels of the workforce and management.
  • Develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and guides the successful completion of major programs and may function in a project leadership role. Proven experience with team engagement experience in a leadership/Team Lead position.
  • Strong understanding of entire product lifecycle and development engineering best practices with proven strengths in innovation and strategic value creation.
  • Significant experience in the developmental/operational test maintenance environment
  • Work is performed without appreciable direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Completed work is reviewed from a relatively long- term perspective, for desired results.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Project.
