Northrop Grumman Space Systems has an opening for the next Principal Engineer Electronics to join the Electronics and Payloads team. This position is based in Manhattan Beach, CA.

The responsibilities of this position include:
  • Detailed understanding of how to properly document test cases and create effective and focused testing plans
  • Work closely with departments within the company to ensure hardware is available for projects and working properly
  • Provide detailed specifications for proposed solutions including time and scope involved
  • Define clear goals for all aspects of a product test and develop steps for their proper execution
  • Design and develop sophisticated test solutions for in-house developed space and avionics hardware products which will fly to space
  • Write test software in Labview on to interact with units under test, test equipment, instrumentation, and production documentation systems
  • Select COTS hardware and/or design custom PCBAs to measure signals, apply flight-like loads, and power units under test
  • Work closely with responsible design engineers, manufacturing engineers, and test lab teams to drive design or infrastructure improvements to increase product reliability and yield
  • Root-cause test failures down to the component level

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM related field (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) with 5+ years of engineering experience; or a STEM Master's degree with 3+ years of engineering experience; or a STEM PhD. degree
  • Experience in software and hardware development and testing
  • Professional work experience in analyzing and testing computer hardware and software
  • Experience with test equipment and measurement techniques to verify and validate product requirements
  • Experience analyzing circuits and developing functional test plans
  • Experience developing software
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Project development and leadership skills are essential in planning and overseeing project tests
  • Ability to work with various departments to facilitate the orderly execution of a proposed project plan
  • Advanced knowledge of testing methodologies and when certain strategies are recommended
  • Experience designing and troubleshooting PCBAs
  • Understanding of metrology, sources of measurement error, and uncertainty analysis
  • Experience developing software preferably in LabVIEW
  • Understanding and experience in environmental testing
