Principal Electrical Engineer
Adaptive Optics Associates Xinetics (AOX), a Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems (NGAS) Strategic Business Venture, is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to support the Image Metrology and Xinetics business areas located in Devens, MA. AOA-Xinetics Image Metrology designs, develops, and produces precision measurement products for commercial industrial customers, U.S. Government, and U.S. defense prime and second-tier contractors. Markets for these products include transportation logistics, package handling, and semiconductor tools. Several potential direct and adjacent application areas also exist.
Northrop Grumman's Adaptive Optics Associates-Xinetics (AOX) is a leader in developing mission critical electro-optical and opto-mechanical systems. Across its three Business Areas (Xinetics, Image Metrology and Special Programs) that have facilities in Devens MA and East Hartford, CT. AOX designs, manufactures and services optical & photonic solutions. AOX customers are the U.S. Government, industrial customers, as well as U.S. defense prime and second-tier contractors. Markets for these technologies include civilian astronomy and defense ISR & Directed Energy programs. AOX has substantial growth opportunities in support of many U.S. Government and NGAS's business initiatives.
The Principal Electrical Engineer will perform as a member of an interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers on different project assignments; as well as a technical lead and/or primary technical resource for the electrical activities. S/He should have proven abilities in electronic hardware product and specifications development. This person must also be able to support proposal teams and work with customers on test definition and requirements.

Specific tasks include working with others to create system and board level schematics, detailed PCB designs including both analog and digital circuits and FPGA's. Responsibilities also include directing others in PCB layouts, releasing engineering drawings and associated parts lists, providing hands-on brass-board assembly, documenting assembly and test procedures, and coordinating with Purchasing to source system components.
The Principal Electrical Engineer will be required to work without appreciable direction. S/He will be able to apply their technical expertise to develop technical solutions to complex problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. This Engineer will guide the successful completion of major programs and may function in a project technical leadership role. They will also have regular interactions with senior internal & external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.
Roles and Responsibilities: Collaborating with peers from other engineering disciplines in architecting, planning, designing and prototyping complex electromechanical and optical systems
Lead and direct electrical engineering on multiple projects through all phases of innovation and development
Assume primary responsibility for the design, analysis and documentation of printed circuit boards including concept design, schematic capture, component selection, and analysis of analog and digital circuits used in an industrial or aerospace application.
Direct the activities of other Electrical Engineers and PCB designers
Develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity
Provide technical content for proposals, estimate and track mechanical design costs, create schedule estimates, and make presentations to customers and company management.
Work collaboratively with other project engineers, Purchasing, Quality and Manufacturing personnel in project execution.
Lead technical contributor for multilayer board design including circuit design, schematic capture, directing PCB layout, and functional testing
FPGA programming and testing as necessary
Required Qualifications: BSEE with nine (9) years' experience - Minimum of four (4) years directly related experience
Digital Hardware Design & Simulation Experience using VHDL (preferred) or Verilog
Embedded System Design using FPGA fabric based processor(s)
Analog Design & Simulation (SPICE)
Multilayer SMT Printed Circuit Board design experience (Concept through Product Release)
Clear, concise oral and written communication skills
Results-oriented with strong personal drive and personal ownership in meeting commitments
Superior analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to gain internal support, operate independently with limited supervision
Ability to establish a solid working relationship with technical staff, division managers, and peers in the business areas
Impeccable ethics; maintains a positive and professional working environment
Experience with Mentor Graphics DxDesigner
US Citizenship is a bona fide requirement as applicants selected will be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
* TS/SCI security clearance preferred
* MSEE with ten 10+ years' experience
* Xilinx Device & Design Tool Experience
* Hands-on signal processing algorithm and hardware design experience

An estimate of travel up to 10% may be required.
