The Cognitive Mission Computing team is looking for people with a diverse skillset and wide range of software engineering interests. The ideal candidate will enjoy working on a diverse set of projects which will challenge the candidate in many different technical ways. As an example, the candidate may be involved in algorithm development and data analysis on one project and on another the candidate may be tasked with performing infrastructure development in an embedded or distributed system.

NGMS is seeking Principal Cognitive Software Engineers and Senior Principal Cognitive Software Engineers to join our Advanced Intelligence Systems (AIS) team. The selected candidate will be responsible for:
- Conducting research and implementing cutting edge artificial intelligence techniques
- Developing novel techniques to tackle the challenges of prediction, optimization, and classification as they relate to: pattern recognition, target detection, tracking, reasoning and inferencing systems.
- Employing software development best practices in order to develop scalable, real-time, software solutions for a range of hardware platforms.
- Collaborating with hardware engineers to research, design, develop, and utilize electronic data processing systems for embedded machine learning.
- Engineer data processing pipelines for extracting knowledge from unstructured datasets and complex sensing modalities.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams in order to deploy machine learning algorithms to production level systems.

This position is located in Linthicum, MD.

This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

Qualifications:

This requisition may be filled at either a Principal Cognitive Software Engineer or a Senior Principal Cognitive Software Engineer Level:

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Cognitive Software Engineer:

  • A Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Mathematics or another related STEM degree
  • At least 5 years of experience in related industry (3 years with a MS degree, 0 years with PhD)
  • Experience conducting research in and developing artificial intelligence (AI) and/or machine learning (ML) software
  • Low-level embedded software development / Heterogeneous Computing experience is required
  • Parallel Programming experience (CUDA, OpenCL)
  • Previous experience using Java / C++ for Object Oriented Development.
  • Previous experience developing on a Linux Operating System
  • Previous experience designing, developing, documenting, testing and debugging applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.
  • Candidates must be US Citizens with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance


Basic Qualifications for a Senior Principal Cognitive Software Engineer:
  • A Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Mathematics or another related STEM degree
  • At least 9 years of experience in related industry (7 years with a MS degree, 4 years with PhD)
  • Experience conducting research in and developing artificial intelligence (AI) and/or machine learning (ML) software
  • Low-level embedded software development / Heterogeneous Computing experience is required
  • Parallel Programming experience (CUDA, OpenCL)
  • Previous experience developing on a Linux Operating System
  • Previous experience using Java / C++ for Object Oriented Development
  • Previous experience designing, developing, documenting, testing and debugging applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.
  • Candidates must be US Citizens with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance


Preferred Qualifications:

  • An Active DoD Security Clearance at a Secret Level or higher
  • Previous experience with multi-threaded/real-time programming
  • Previous experience utilizing open-source Artificial Intelligence libraries
  • Experience developing machine learning algorithms in OpenCL/CUDA
  • Experience using dev. ops. Tools like Docker/Kubernetes
  • Experience developing micro services
  • Visualization development using various frameworks and JavaScript, CSS, HTML
  • Image Processing (openCV, etc.), Natural Language Processing, Signal Processing experience
  • Systems Programming experience (Kernel/OS development)
  • Network programming experience
  • Experience with Automated Build Tools
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment
