The Flight Operations Lead provides oversight and guidance of the daily execution and scheduling of several pilots, sensor operators and mission planners. Carries out the direction and plan of the Flight Operations Manager to accomplish successful flight test while ensuring compliance with sector policies/procedures.


1. Provides pilot expertise to ensure daily flight test activities are scheduled and accomplished safely and effectively while covering all assigned tasks with qualified personal for both ground and flight operations.

2. Partners with Flight Operations Manager, Aviation Safety Officer, Flight Test Engineering and Ground Operations to ensure safe and effective ground and flight test operations.

3. Focuses on aviation best practices with regard to safety related areas in aircrew training, human factors, crew resource management, ground/flight operations, aviation maintenance, and mishap prevention/reporting.

4. Responsible for liaison with the Government Flight Representative GFR, meeting the GFR's expectations on compliance and execution of current government regulations and instructions.

5. Engages with program IPTs and Responsible Engineers to ensure air vehicle and ground station operational functionality is tested in accordance with the proposed test plan as they direct.

6. Ensures operations are in accordance with current DCMA 8210.1 series, Service guidance and CCOM directives, direct liaison to and supports the customer, ensuring all contractual requirements are met.

7. Sponsors and facilitates best practices and leverages lessons learned from multiple organizations and applying them across the flight operations team.

8. Provides credible expertise and safety inputs for consideration to the chief pilot and flight test engineers for test execution, simulator flights, flight test techniques and test conduct.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 14 years experience in aviation.
  • Must be a commercial pilot with single engine, instrument rating
  • Minimum of 500 hours as pilot in command
  • Current FAA Class II medical certificate or better.
  • Must have a current DOD Top Secret Clearance to start.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • BS in engineering.
  • Military rated flight experience.
  • Unmanned air vehicle pilot qualifications.
  • Instructor pilot qualifications.
  • Flight Test experience is also a plus
