Optical Engineer 2 - Hartford

AOA Xinetics (AOX), a Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems (NGAS) strategic business unit, is currently seeking a talented individual looking for an exciting career in Optics to join its East Hartford, CT staff.

The Optical Engineer 2 must have a basic understanding of Optical Engineering principle, theories, and concepts. S/He will be responsible for designing, modeling, analyzing, and testing optical and electro-optical systems and components, including lenses, mirrors, prisms, sensors, lasers, fiber-optics, and telecommunications products. S/He will need to demonstrate the skill and ability to perform moderately complex professional tasks, applying technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques. The successful candidate must work well under general supervision, working both independently and as a member of a team.

The engineer will work with the development team to:

  • Design and analyze optical components and subsystems
  • Specify optical components for fabrication by Qualified Suppliers
  • Develop test plans and perform testing of optical components and subsystems
  • Assemble opto-mechanical sub-assemblies
  • Document and present designs and test results
  • Contribute to the development of innovative solutions to difficult problems

Basic Qualifications:

BS in Optical Engineering or Physics

Minimum of 2 years experience in technical field

Hands-on skills for assembly and testing of designs

Good verbal and written communications skills for presentation of technical approaches, work performed, test results, and findings

Active Government Top Secret Clearance or SSBI

Preferred Qualifications:

MS in Optical Engineering or Physics
