Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems has an exciting opportunity for a Manager of Analytical Chemistry located at the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory near Cumberland, MD. This position will report directly to the Energetic Technologies and Laboratories Senior Manager, and will provide leadership to a team of Analytical Chemists in the analysis and interpretation of data for chemicals and materials utilized or manufactured at the facility.
Oversight of scientific leadership and management of the Analytical Chemistry group
Manage resources to ensure the appropriate level of support and prioritization of activities
Mentor and develop scientists on technical projects and assignments
Serve as the technical expert and assist laboratory staff with troubleshooting
Manage personnel and financial resources effectively
Assures quality, cost effectiveness and timely completion of projects
Interface with internal and external customers
Compile and interpret results of tests and analyses. Monitor test results to ensure compliance to applicable standards and specifications
Ensures that results withstand peer and industry review
Ensure that laboratory equipment and systems are maintained in accordance with procedures and standards
Statistical based analysis of physical and chemical technical data
Perform duties within industry specific regulations regarding safety, product and material requirements and plant operations
Perform technical planning, cost estimation and general proposal support for new business captures
Continuously improve technical and business acumen to ultimately serve as a subject matter expert
Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, M.S. or Ph.D. preferred
Five years related work experience in a chemistry laboratory
Method development expertise for quantitative analysis which includes numerous instrumental and wet methods: Chromatography, Spectroscopy, Titrations, Imaging
Proficiency in MS office tools and web-based organizational filing
Able to obtain a Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a prerequisite
Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
High ethical standards of work and personal conduct
Demonstrated ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and with internal and external customers
Ability to understand and interpret physical and chemical properties data
Ability and willingness to work outside of standard work hours when needed to resolve issues
Ability to work well in a team environment and effective interpersonal communication and problem solving skills are desired

This position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for this location. Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval to be a possessor.
